The story is super long so here’s a photo of his “ring” ๐Ÿ˜‰ I proposed with (he’s a mechanic, so he would never wear a ring, but ALWAYS has keys with him), and the ring he bought me a while later on Martha’s Vineyard.

ETA: no clue why my pictures keep coming in upside down!!!!!!!!!

My wife and I live in a very small, conservative area. When we came out, we lost a lot of family, including our mothers. As a result, we used to see our friend’s home as our haven, because for the first year it was the only place we felt comfortable being “out”.

We picked out our rings together so I knew she was going to propose but I didn’t know when. My only stipulation was that it needed to be during a sunset because that’s when I’m happiest!

Our friend asked us to house-sit for her one week, and on our first day there my wife said she wanted to pick some wildflowers with me, then we had a romantic dinner together. As the sun was setting, I was in the shower and had no idea she was decorating the living room with the flowers and waiting on one knee for me to come out! She had a playlist of our songs playing, and had a whole speech prepared but we were both happy-crying too much. She had both of our rings in the box so I could propose to her right afterwards! We waited a day before telling anyone so we could just enjoy our “bubble”, and even though we received a lot of backlash we couldn’t be happier.

Mine was complicated.

It was April 1st. Which this year was April Fools and Easter.

We have a number of inside jokes involving this day, none by any means romantic. But I just found out a few weeks earlier, I was moving from NY to Alaska, temporarily for work. He took me to the park we went to on our first date. We were sitting on a bench by a pond when he asked dialogue went like this

HIM “will you marry me?”. (Not the first time he’s started the wedding talk like this)

He did not get down on one knee, did not have a ring, so I laughed and said “sure”.

HIM: Why are you laughing

ME: because you’re funny

HIM: I’m seriously asking

ME: No you’re not

HIM: Yes I am.

ME: oh, I’m sorry

HIM: Why didnt you believe me

ME: It’s April Fools, there’s no ring, and you’re not down on one knee

So he proceeded to pick me up so I stood on the bench instead of sitting on it and asked me again. I said yes.

He came to visit me in Alaska for a few days. While we were watching a movie he slipped my promise ring (which he gave me years ago) off and switched it to my engagement ring (pictured below).

So not a super romantic story, but it’s our story so I love it. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Such great stories! Thank you all for sharing (I should get back to work :D)

I know my SO has my ring (we picked it out together) so I am sort of patiently waiting for him to pop the question. He’s had it since July 6th, what’s the hold up?! LOL I did ask him to do something special but it doesn’t need to be extravagant and especially no pictures during the proposal. I have a feeling that he feels slightly overwhelmed “to do something special” so I do my best not to bug him about it. Like y’all, I am excited for this next step and I am not the type to hide my excitement for anything.

Being a Disney fanatic since infancy and going every year of my life, I dreamed of being proposed to in Disney World. One thing I told my sister was that I hope he wouldn’t propose in front of the castle because it’s actually not my favorite location. My favorite movie is Tangled and my fiancé and I love watching it together. He proposed by Rapunzel’s tower while we took pictures with the lantern. It was beyond magical and everything I could have wanted.

My husband and I hiked to Kings Pinacle in North Carolina. It has always been my favorite place to visit in the area because of the view! (Just utterly gorgeous!) once at the top, we found a quiet place to sit and enjoy the view. After a few moments he dropped to one knee and asked me to marry him! It was the perfect start to our forever after because we are the adventuring type!

My engagement ring is a 2 carat hearts and arrows cut moissanite (I’m really not a diamond girl) set in rose gold ๐Ÿ˜

frenchtoastvegan :  UUUGH! I’m in the same boat… I’m trying SOOO hard to not rummage through our room for it. When he picked the ring up he asked if i wanted to see it, but I said “No, cause then I’ll want to wear it RIGHT NOW!” haha. C’mon man! This is a special kind of cruelty ๐Ÿ˜›

youmaysayimadreamer :  my proposal was a surprise and very romantic. He had been taking care of me for a couple weeks after I had gotten out of the hospital for being really ill and one day came home from work and after getting all of his “I missed you at work” kisses, he sat me down and started telling me in full detail the extraordinary feelings that he was experiencing in our relationship and how he felt compelled to ask me for a while about wanting to cherish me for eternity and then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I was stunned at first and had to ask him if he was being serious because we hadn’t known each other longer than 6weeks and 90% of that time because I was recovering from being ill I felt like my personality was sleepy/lacking and I looked like a homely troll lol. But I already knew he was being serious because he was down on his knee in front of me, holding my hands tightly looking up at me with deep emotion and wild anticipation like a little boy waiting to open the biggest present on Christmas morning when he replied that yes he was being very serious as this is the only time he had ever asked someone to marry him. The funny thing is, falling in to step with him had been as simple as breathing and I also had the feeling that this was “it” so it was an easy yes and he lept up, smiling from ear to ear and picked me up and held me and then we shared a kiss and took our first engagement photo.

There was no ring at the time because it was a spur of the moment thing and he wanted me to have my dream ring so we took our time and spent the next year and a half designing rings and picking out stones (we have matching sapphires which will be in both of our rings that were cut from the same large stone) and after a long but truly gratifying wait for my ring to be finished, he gifted my ring to me a few days later on Easter. I honestly couldn’t have imagined anything more perfect ๐Ÿ˜

Charliejeorge :  So cruel! These messages boards are the only thing keeping me from going through his personal items! I wouldn’t really go through his space but I may or may not have lightly gone through the basement ๐Ÿ˜€ it’s shared space so that’s okay, right?! I suppose all in good timing. I love this stuff so much and I enjoy reading about everyone’s experiences. I hope you get yours soon too!!!

My FH proposed during a ski holiday in Austria last March. One morning he told me that we wouldn’t have breakfast in the hotel. He took me to a tiny restaurant on top of the mountain. The restaurant (just for the two of us) was a glass cube with a perfect view and we had a champagne breakfast. After that he proposed. I was really overwhelmed. We are already 12.5 years together so I didn’t expect a proposal at all! He already asked my dad blessings 3 months before and he also had the ring made 4 months earlier.

frenchtoastvegan :  hahaha of course, the basement is fair game. All our space is shared space, neither of us would be bothered by the other rumaging around haha. Every day I have this internal struggle about hunting for it. I want to see it so bad, but I know I’ll regret it if I do. I’m trying hard to not even go in the bedroom until bed time this week lol. I dreamt that he proposed and the ring was NOTHING like what we ordered (like it was a 2 finger ring and had chain mail on it… lol) and when I asked him afterwards, he said the sales associate called him after we left and she had found a setting I would like even more. haha!
