Ok Married Bees. I have procrastinated the wedding planning and my small, intimate wedding is snowballing by the second. FH has measured the backyard and is dead set on a tent rental. I must step in before we end up with the most inexpensive, ugly tent around because it was a good deal. Please post a pic of your blessed event tent all glam-ed up with decorations and table settings and comment on what you loved and what you would do differently. Question – chairs on grass without a floor? Will we sink into the ground? Was draping the tent inside with fabric and chandeliers worth the expense? Thanks in advance for your help!

I am not a married bee however I have been to many a wedding so I thought I would comment (since no one else has).
1). Chairs on grass- Yes they will more than likely sink. The depth of which they sink will depend on the grass, moisture and type of chairs. Those plastic chairs that disperse the weight more don’t seem to sink as much as the typical four legged chair. Went to a wedding on grass and literally spent the entire ceremony battling my four legged chair, it was quite a distraction.
2). Tents with draping and chandeliers are totally worth it. I love chandeliers and it is actually the theme of my upcoming May wedding so perhaps I am a bit biased. It just adds to the overall ambience and softens the tent.
Here is a photo of a space avaialble at my venue that has permanent draping and chandeliers in their tent. It is quite gorgeous, especially at night all lit up.

We had a fairly wet week leading up to the wedding however the chairs were straight on the grass and we didn’t ahve any sinkage issues. We had some shoe heel sinkage, but the chairs were fine.
We had cocktail our set up outside, dinner in the tent, and dancing inside the small one room yacht club.
Here’s what our tent looked like:

View from outside (sides were down because it was drizzling on and off):
And everyone enjoying their dinner in the tent:

Love it!! What were your runner and table coverings? They look awesome and the look I’m going for just can’t decide on how to do it!!

@Snow00774: We rented them from a party store near Portland Maine. The color is called Sunset Iridescent and the underlays were ivory. The green ones for the cocktail tables were Moss iridescent.
I’m not sure what brand the overlays were, but i was worried about them being “too bright” but they turned out totally lovely.

@KatNYC2011: They really did – great choices and thanks for sharing!! I’m kind of lost about the whole decorating a table thing so need to get my ass into a rental store and play around with it. Thanks for the pictures that show a tented venue can look amazing without massive rented trees and chandeliers and things lol!!

@Snow00774: Glad to help! Going to a party rental store can really help. They set up a sample table for me so I could see the color on a table (rather than just a little swatch). Seeing things “full size” really helps with visualization.
