I have specific goals, but I don’t dream of the dress, or a look, or a feel.
I am soooo out of shape and I can’t even run on a treadmill really, just walk quickly for as long as it takes… (I also always feel like I’m gonna fall down if I run on a treadmill, what’s up with that)
But I have a specific thought that motivates me to keep going back.
I’m a huge Doctor Who fan and like many other fans, I have noticed frequently how much time he and his companions spend running. It’s a major part of most episodes and they’d never survive situations and win the day without copious running. It’s even lampshaded and joked about in-show.
I work out so that if I ever wound up on another planet in another time with The Doctor… I’d be ready to run.
I know that sounds stupid and I swear I’m not delusional, just that thought really makes me feel like getting moving on days when I don’t want to.
Does anyone else have odd thoughts that motivate you?

I pretend I’m in the army and there’s a drill sergeant shouting obscenities in my ear. LOL

I have a similar scenario, except that I’m usually on a top secret mission and I have to run from my enemies (whoever they are), OR I have to run to get to the scene of the action and save the day!
They’re actually more involved than that (more details) but it’s the same deal.
I never thought about running with the Doctor before! Might have to try that next time 😀
I keep telling my Fiance, if the Doctor comes by the night before our wedding I am totally jumping on that TARDIS, whether FI’s with me or not hahaha

I just posted a “skinny” picture of myself for my FB profile. I think the accountability of others motivates me. So I guess it’s not “wierd” just my own way. The scale dropping lbs every week is MAJOR motivation as well 🙂

I picture someone I dislike lifting more weight or having a better figure than me. I’m horribly competitive when it comes to fitness, so I always remind myself that someone’s getting better on days that I’m lazy.
I know this isn’t unusual, but a killer playlist of music I’d never be caught dead listening to anywhere else than at the gym. On my headphones. Exhibit A; R3jectz “cat daddy”

I just think about my dad – he’s 60 years old & runs marathons. And when I say run, I mean run. We both post runs on RunKeeper, so I try to keep up with him. It’s really embarassing to get beat by your father.

I’m having a hard time with getting back into exercising…definitely going to see what everyone has to say about this! I’d like to lose 10 pounds, but what I’d like more is to actually get back into working out so I emotionally *feel* better day to day (Winter has been too long…).

I have some new (and slightly hateful) motivation for me. One of my “friends” bought a dress for my wedding this July that is three sizes too small for her and she is hoping to lose that much weight by then. I would usually be pretty supportive, but she got an ivory lace dress to wear to my wedding and it looks like a mini version of my wedding dress. I don’t think she can lose that much weight in four months, but there’s NO way I’m risking her looking better than me on my wedding day!

i listen to black metal, circa Mindless Self Indulgence. It freaks me out just enough that I run like a crazy person. Also, I have a lot of competition with my Future Sister-In-Law, so that always keeps me motivated.

I have skinny bridesmaids… I’ve taken pictures of them when they’ve tried on bridesmaid dresses and how cute they look to remind myself that these skinny, cute people will be standing up there making me look bad if I don’t go to the gym.
I realized it sounds sort of creepy that I take pictures, so I wanted to clarify! haha All of my bridesmaids are wearing different dresses and I’ve taken pictures to keep track of who is wearing what!

@whitarens: you’re joking!! I can’t believe someone would wear that to a wedding.

@whitarens: a guest wearing a WHITE LACE dress to your wedding? I would smugly hope she didn’t lose the weight. I feel a little bad saying that, but really, that choice of dress is not in good taste, either.
Great motivator for you to get yourself looking smashing, though! You go! 🙂

@soontobemrsm11: Oh, she did! I couldn’t believe it either. I mean, I know that nowadays people do wear white to weddings, but I was still kind of appalled. It’s great motivation so far though!
