i voted no, only because i think short dresses are not as formal, and your gown is beatiful. however, if it accessorize i think it could work.

I have the same exact dress as you! Like you, my wedding is more formal because it is an evening wedding. I actually choose two different dresses for my bridesmaids, which are from the Modern Vintage collection (I am getting the deep plum, color of the first dress).  If you are going to go with short dresses, dress them up with heels and maybe an elegant hairstyle. If you really want to get a different dress, maybe consider a tea-length dress instead. It’s a bit more formal, but still short. And remember, it is YOUR wedding. If you like the dresses and think they look good, then get them. P.S. Sorry about the size of the pics

@subola:  I would go with a long gown, if I were you.  Personally, I could see myself picking that dress for my BMs for my beachy destination wedding idea.  I think it’s a bit informal.

How do you feel about a long Bridesmaid or Best Man gown? I love the first dress, but I think that the short length makes it too casual for your dress and venue.  If that dress comes in a long style, I would go with that.  Personally, I am having a garden wedding, so my Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses are cocktail length, but since your wedding seems to be more formal, I think you need a more formal Bridesmaid or Best Man dress to match.

I think the second BMs dress would definitely work. And your dress is AMAZING!

I agree with prior posters. If you’re having a formal, evening wedding, you ideally should have your bridesmaids in long dresses. My wedding was at 6 p.m. precisely so that I could have my maids (and the mothers) in long dresses.

@Brielle:  +1. My wedding is actually at a ranch but I’ve always envisioned a more formal affair. This is my dress:

MOH’s dress (it will be coral):

And BMs dress (also will be in coral):

@lindseyl06:  Your gown is beautiful! I think the coral bridesmaids’ dresses will be beautiful, too.

I personally do not like long bridesmaid dresses at all.  It’s your wedding, I like the dress you posted originally.  I say do what you want.  This is what my girls wore:

this is me with my girls. our wedding wasn’t “formal” but it wasn’t exactly casual either. 4pm ceremony, 6pm reception. it was in a small ballroom (only 90 people at my wedding) with a plated, sit down dinner.

i think your dress can work if you put them in pumps, a more formal up-do, and one statement accessory. personally, i think over accessorized short dresses look too trendy/clubby to me.

another way to look at it is… what do you expect your guests to wear? cocktail attire? black tie? will your girls stand out against them? do you want them to?

Like a PP stated, I think long gowns are more formal but I don’t think the short dress looks bad.
