I’m sure most people by now are familiar with the term catfish, if not i recommend you watch the documentary called catfish and the tv series that spanned from it.
I thought it would be interesting to hear other people’s experiences with catfishes, how did you find out you were dealing with a catfish? did you confront them?
Years ago in my teens i was in an “online relationship” with this guy from america. I am from Australia.. we chatted online for ages before we even went near webcams or anything so i was basing this guy off photos he sent me. I’d convinced myself i was in love with him and he told me he was going to move to be with me. It never happened of course, we never even met, he sent me photos of things like his house. I had his address as we would send each other gifts and now with the technology of google street view when i enter that address a completely different house pops up on the screen to the one in the photos, the photos he sent me of him were of someone else because eventually he got on webcam with me and he looked different.. he wasn’t ugly or anything so i don’t know why he sent me pics of someone else. I went on a family trip to hawaii and the plan was for him to meet me there, he told me he had booked a hotel room at the same hotel and everything and when the time came he didn’t show up, told over the top lies to cover his tracks just very dodgy.. so glad it is all over and i’m married now with a real person.. i just don’t understand his motivation behind it.. we had talked to each other for years. I feel stupid looking back at all the time i had wasted and all of the obvious warning signs that were there all along but i guess i was blinded and naieve and always felt there was hope because why would someone dedicate so much time and money on me for no good reason without even having met me?
I’d like to hear other people’s experiences so share away! No judgements here as i’ve been there and so have many others!
