I had a busy May, so Fiance started planning a Memorial Day trip to Mackinac Island but told me few details. I had a feeling he was going to propose on that trip but didn’t say anything that might throw him off. He kept carrying around his backpack, which had the e-ring inside, and as I was unpacking in our FANCY HOTEL SUITE, I discovered some of his favorite rare craft beer that he was saving for a special occassion. Then I was sure! We were walking around the island and had a picnic lunch by the lake, and he proposed! I love that he did so much planning and that I could totally see it coming! We just know each other so well.

I had no idea it was coming whatsoever!

We went to my Fiance cabin with his family last November, his cabin is where we first met, and we were shooting shot guns like we always do. His whole family was there, his Mum was filming and his brothers girlfriend was taking photos. It had just started to snow and he tooky gun from my hands, asked if I would like a hug, and started saying all these beautiful things to me. I stood there stunned, not believing it was happening, I actually wouldn’t let myself believe it was happening until he got down on one knee in all of the snow and asked me to marry him! After I said yes I kept saying, are you serious!?

What I love so much is that he went to my now MOHs mom to get my engagement ring, she works at a jewellers so it was already sized. He had asked both my parents when they went out to dinner together and his whole family knew. Everyone was in on it and helped my Fiance propose to me in a way I absolutely loved! He did it in such a traditional way after we made all our calls to our loved ones and best friends for them to know because we were out of town at the cabin! Hearing him say, “I asked her to marry me” a hundred times made me so giddy!!

This will sound crazy, but I have two — potentially three, in a couple weeks —

1.) My Fiance and I got engaged at the end of the summer after we graduated high school almost 4 years ago. It was a whirlwind and quite romantic (although in hindsight, it was a bad idea to even think about marriage at this point) but we were in love. He proposed with his class ring since we didn’t have enough money for a “real” ring that he felt I “deserved” but I was so happy I didn’t care.

We were sitting in his room on the edge of his bed and it was dark so he asked me to turn his light on. The light looked like an old diver’s helmet and the front of the “helmet” actually opened up so you could change the skinny lightbulb inside. I turned on the light and he said the lightbulb looked funny so when I opened the helmet, there was his class ring sitting atop the bulb and I looked at him and he was down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I cried and said yes. Again, in hindsight, we should’ve just kept this private but we decided to tell my family and that pretty much ended that. Regardless, I wore his class ring.

2.) A year later on our anniversary, we exchanged gifts. I got him some games and a new jacket he’d been wanting and in turn he handed me a card. I read the card and inside was a post-it with a clue. Each clue led to another all over his house and backyard until I got to the end and it told me to close my eyes and turn around three times. When I opened them, he was down on one knee with a ringbox in hand. He asked me to marry him again, and this time he promised we’d do it right this time. The ring was my promise ring and we told my family that we were engaged to be engaged and they were thrilled.

Currently, I am getting ready to graduate college and we ordered my official ring and I told him that he really didn’t need to propose to me again since I’m happy the way we are and I already know what our relationship means to us that he doesn’t need to ask. Since he promised me that we would do things by the book this time, he’s going to ask my parents for official permission and he really wants to propose again which I think is amazing of him since we already consider ourselves engaged. I love him so much and can’t wait to set our date!

MrsPhishBee: courtney906: Those are so sweet!! I love how they incorporated yall’s children!

We were on vacation in Hawaii. I knew he would do it there because my parents went on their honeymoon there and that’s our favorite place that we have been together. They have both passed away and I told him I felt a connection with them there. We went on a sunrise hike in the middle of the week and I thought he would do it and I saw a ring box in his pocket. Turned out I was worrying for nothing because the ring was in the hotel room haha. The day before we left we were going to hike Diamond Head. Before we left, we discovered my debit card had been stolen the night before and we had to take care of that first. He was so upset because it was in his possesion when he lost it, and he was nervous anyways. So we get to the top of Diamond Head and there are SO many people up there. I didn’t think he would do it there because of all the people. We got to a semi-private place and he said he wanted us to take a pic. He handed some guy my phone and told him he was about to propose and just keep taking pictures!

I’m posting the link to my video! Here is the background story…

My Fiance is in the wedding business. He owns an event design company and he always has some kind of event on the 4th of July every year except for last year. We had a big family BBQ and it was great. So, in early June, we were talking about plans and he said “It was really nice having our families together last 4th of July. Since I can’t do the BBQ, we should get our families together and go to lunch at Old Port Fest”. Old Port Fest is a two-day long event with concerts and vendors and is meant to push people to local business in the city of Portland, ME. It was on Sunday June 8th. Sundays are pretty much his only day off…

Anywho, I didn’t think anything of it when we all got together on a Sunday to do lunch. He picked a place where a small band that he had worked with before and that we had gone out to see a couple of times was playing. Little did I know he had made arrangements with the singer to dedicate a song to us so he could make a speach and propose… in front of 200+ people!

Here is our video. Fiance starts his speech around 1:50: https://vimeo.com/97688226
