One week till my first fitting! I’m so excited and so nervous at the same time. I think I’ve been looking at my pictures too much, because I go through phases of second guessing my dress, especially when there are so many other gorgeous ones on the designer’s website. But then I remember the feeling when I tried on my dress that I just HAD to put it on at least once more, and I wanted to jump up and down and swoosh the skirt… So surely it must be the one?
I would love to hear your experiences – did you love your dress when it came in? Discovered you changed your mind about it? Exceeded your expectations? Please share!

Well, I gained weight between when I ordered my dress and it came in, so it was really tight and unflattering and kind of a bummer. I’ve lost those few extra pounds now, though, and every time I have a fitting I’m sad to take my dress off and look forward until the next one. I have my final appointment/pick up scheduled for next saturday and I can’t wait- then I can try my dress on at home, in secret, as much as I want until the wedding (another two weeks away)

I was pretty happy when my dress came in. It was big on top, but not nearly as big as I was expecting. It was a bit tight in the hips, but I had put on a few pounds (I had just taken my comprehensive exams).
My first fitting was pretty stressful though. It was a 45 minute appointment, and it took her longer than that just to pin it everywhere (although it fit perfect on the hips- lost the few pounds- it was huge on my wasit and bust). After 1:15, other consultants started bugging and distracting the seamstress to take other brides, and we barely had any time to question how things were pins, and I was really unhappy with the top. It normally wouldn’t have been such a big deal, except the store makes you pay more money to make big changes on the dress after the first fitting (and they might have considered it one), and I’m out of state. I flew in for the appointment, and I’m only planning on coming in one more time before the wedding. An unsuccessful first fititng meant I would have to shell out probably 500 to fly in last minute to deal with it later.
That being said, I was quite upset. I called the shop asking if I could see her for 15 more minutes since I was out of town, at first they were very unaccomendating, but finally after explaining my situation to the manager she agreed to let me come at the end of the day.
It turns out the cups in my dress were misplaced (she didn’t have time to look at them before). I felt very matronly in the amount of fabric on top (the dress is a size 10 for my hips but I’m a size 4 on top), and she asked to cutt my dress right in front of me (scary!!). She did and made the straps thinner. After this appointment, the dress looked soooo amazing!! I was so happy I came back that night!
So my main advice- make sure you are happy with the dress pinned before you leave. Sure you can make little changes later, but if something is way off that may just costs you extra money and time

Audrey2: I couldn’t believe it was mine, that I actually had my dream dress. The colour was so much more creamy than the sample, I loved it.

StL.Ashley: glad to hear you are sad to take your dress off! Well done for losing those few extra pounds, I’m trying at the moment and it’s really hard.
mgbser: thanks for the tip. I will also only be able to have one fitting so yes I definitely to make sure everything will be right!
CatyLady: so happy that you had that feeling, I hope I will too!

Audrey2: I loved my dress when I was wearing it and hated looking at photos, the lighting wasn’t flattering and I second-guessed myself like crazy. Also I went on a ridiculous diet to fit into my too-small sample, which I did, and immediately regretted because my wedding was in February and my first fitting was in August. So I had to go on the ridiculous diet again the month before my wedding :-/ I doubt my dress would fit right now! I like carbs.

Audrey2: I absolutely loved my dress from the moment I first saw it!! My first fitting went well, and when I went back for the second I was overwhelmed to see the dress – as ordered for my huge hips it was WAY too big on the top and middle. So seeing it when it fit properly was a whole new and wonderful experience. It felt as if it was truly mine. It is now being hemmed, and I look forward to seeing it the right length!
Fingers crossed that your fitting goes well!!

jennmariee: thanks for sharing your experience! I’m on a “no cake/chocolate for 2 weeks” diet pre-fitting which I hope I can repeat before the wedding.
Astra: thanks for sharing! We have also ordered my dress a size too big so I am trying to remember that it isn’t going to be as snug over my waist as the sample. I’m glad yours is fitting well now!
