Now that Fiance and I have a date, and a venue, we’ve been talking a bit more about cocktail hour entertainment.
Fiance is definitely a quirky dude (which I love!), and said he would like to hire a magician to do magic tricks during cocktail hour! Not like a magic show, but just sort of walking around and doing casual magic tricks.
I personally don’t mind the idea – and I think it’s a great way to make sure Fiance has something special that he picked himself! So many people have said “Well, we all know it’s really about the BRIDE” – but I want it to be about both of us, and this seems like a silly little thing that will make him happy 🙂
Plus he seems to think our friends would really get a kick out of it, lol! I’m not convinced, but even if Fiance is the only one who enjoys it, that would be enough!
Did any of you have fun/quirky reception details? I’d love to hear about them!

That sounds totally fun! We’re trying to hire a Cuban salsa band for cocktail hour as a surprise (FI is half Cuban) but we’re not sure yet if it’s happening.

- Wedding: March 2014 - Church and University
I think that’s a great idea!
My DH owns a yellow VW Bug that he LOVES, so we had a Bug ice scuplture/vodka luge at the cocktail hour.
We also used our favorite albums (literally vinyl) for people to sign as guest books. They’re now framed in our family room!

My fiance and I have always been super into game nights. One of our first dates we played Jenga (okay, it was Drenga– for drunk jenga!!) but we are having a game station at our cocktail hour. Cornhole, giant connect 4, and of course giant jenga! I saw a cute saying on Etsy that I’m going to put on some sort of lawn sign- “couples that play together stay together”

I surprised my husband with a karaoke hour the last hour of our reception! We are horrible at karaoke but love it! It was a blast and all the guests loved it! =)

I think that is such a cool idea- I know if I saw that at a wedding I would be sooo pumped! I actually pitched a caricaturist for our reception but couldn’t end up finding anyone available .
We are trying to do a few “out of the box” things but right now all we have are high five confetti shooters for our walk down the aisle as “mr & mrs” (basically we’ll wear them on our hands and when we high-five confetti will shoot out the top)
I think the best wedding elements are the ones that reflect you as a couple! Have fun!!

I. Love. Magic. To a stupid degree. I would be the grown ass woman jumping up and down and clapping like a fool at your wedding, with zero shame.

Bonfire and s’mores bar for our backyard wedding!!!

We had sauna and ice swimming at our reception. It’s a family tradition for the boys to go swimming during the reception, so we just added the sauna to make it doable in January.

That’s awesome! I was thinking about kareoke. My fiance has never done it but he knows all the words to some 90’s rap songs like the Humpty dance and ice ice baby, and I would love to see him do it! We might get a giant jenga and write facts about our relationship on ech block and put in the back of the dance hall along with corn hole

I surprised my daughter and son in law, by hiring an event artist, to paint at their wedding. She chose him to paint the father-daughter dance, and members of our immediate family were included in the painting, standing around the dance floor. It looked like almost every guest stopped to watch the artist and he was extremely easy to talk to/answer questions. It’s probably the only wedding related item that will stay hanging, on the walls of her house.

That would be so awesome!
You had me at vodka luge lol. But I love your non-traditional guest book idea!
That is awesome, and I love the quote! (maybe because Fiance and I and our friends have a weekly game night!)
love the karaoke idea! Fiance and I have been together for 8 years and he will NOT do karaoke. Which is so disappointing, because it would be HILARIOUS!
I have never been more intrigued by something in my life. I NEED high five confetti shooters!
lol – I’m glad to hear that someone could be excited about this! I actually sort of hate magic. Mostly because 1- I’m very bitter I never got my Hogwarts letter and 2- I hate not knowing how they did it lol!
That sounds amazing!
What a special family tradition! Good call on the sauna for January 😉
What an awesome mom you are! And a great surprise gift!

We had ice cream at our wedding because I am an addict. 🙂 and It doesn’t hurt that Mother-In-Law manages an ice cream parlor.

Were having a bunch of games (cornhole, ring toss, giant jenga, giant yahtzee), a bonfire with a s’more bar, and a photobooth. I guess these aren’t too quirky. I like the magician idea!
Oh i forogt were thinking about having food trucks come toward the end of the night for a late night snack. We have looked into a wood fired pizza truck, a taco truck, and a sundae truck!

Its a kickstarted project and I obviously haven’t had a chance to try it out but I figured it was worth a shot!
