Usually for my step-sibs I go for gift cards for the movies at $20 each. It’s two tickets and they are 20, 18, and 14, so they enjoy it.

I LOVE the idea of handmade coasters! My SIL has a huge stock of stamps and ink, so I might have to grab some supplies and get to work. I have a few people in mind for that one. I’d love to get them myself, since I ended up with ugly rubber coasters to save our end tables.

I’ve made a movie gift basket before for my parents with a gift card to a restaurant and to the movies, plus a DVD and some candy in one of the microwavable popcorn buckets. I called it a “Night out or a Night in” gift basket. You can cut a little cost of by skipping the gift card to the restaurant, or just making it a “movie night” gift card with the popcorn, candy and a DVD or 2.

My SIL got a breakfast gift basket for her wedding. This one was HUGE, but on a smaller scale you could make one with coffee, a couple of cheap but cute mugs, tea, pancake mix, muffin mix, jam, apple butter, etc…

@Isilme: A snake scarf??  That sounds so cool!  It reminds me of the Vegan Fox scarf I saw a while back.

I too used to be a big spender for x-mas but as a family we decided to cutt down…. I usually just buy x-mas cards for everyone so no one is left out. Then we play a game called elephant game (dont know why its called this) where u buy one unisex gift, u choose amount, usually $30-$50 for us. On x-mas eve/day everyone gathers with gift of-course, puts the gift on a table and draws a number from the hat. If ur first, u pick a gift any gift and open it imediately. next number can either pick an unopened gift or take the first persons gift away. If they decide to take first gift then u have to choose a diff one (unopened) a gift can only be stolen 3 times….! Its a fun game…! Or another game would be what is known as Secret Santa. Hopefully that helps, whatever u do have fun!

I hope no one minds that I might steal most of these ideas. These are great. Last year we only bought the kids that are immediate to us gifts and this year money is tigher than ever. I really love the wooden letter idea. I was thinking of doing that but making them into Christmas ornaments. I really really love that idea. That way every one get something and its very unique.

One year our friends gave out tins of homemade cookies! she makes the BEST pumpkin chocolate chip cookies ever! Best present. Than last year she gave all families a bottle of wine. It was awesome.

Does anyone have any DIY ideas for men? I would love to be able to give my Dad (late 50’s) Uncle (late 50’s) and my cousin (17) something DIY??? I was considering giving all of the women a DIY glass bead bracelet.
