I just started using the My Fitness Pal app on Monday. So far, so good and, even though I have been tempted a million times, I’m not hungry and haven’t caved. I set my preferences to lose two lbs. a week. I technically have 100+ lbs. to lose but would like to try to lose at least 75 lbs. by the time we TTC next summer (of course, I am going to work extra hard to get to that 100 lbs. loss mark!). I would like to know your experience and successes with using this app. Also, did you lose more than you requested in the first two weeks? I always lost more the first two weeks when I did WW. I haven’t started exercising yet but hope to as time passes. Thanks, bees! My biggest challenges are going to be upping my water intake and to make myself stop weighing every day as opposed to just once a week like I should be. 🙂

I started using My Fitness Pal almost two years ago. My initial success was amazing. While I was only about 20 lbs overweight, I lost it all and then some and I owe it to this app. Now I really only use it to maintain my ideal weight, but its certainly one of the best apps I’ve ever had in terms of the help its given me. I HATE traditional diets that restrict the kinds of food I can eat, and My Fitness Pal allowed me to still eat the things I love in moderation, since I was more aware of the nutrition content. For example, I LOVE Starbucks chai tea lattes and couldn’t possibly live without them. I figured out how to allow the smallest size chai to be part of my daily food intake. Having something I love (but that isn’t the best choice nutrition-wise) was an important part to keeping me on track! I think the key to this app is to stick to it, but don’t be discouraged if you miss out on a day of tracking. Just continue on with it the next day. It’s easy to cheat and then not want to imput the data because its depressing to see how far I went over, but I allowed myself to do this once in awhile knowing that I would be back on track the next day.

I’ve been on MFP for a little over a year, and lost (and kept off) 32 pounds so far. I love the support and accountability on there – it’s definitely helpful!
(BTW: My user name is the same on there for anyone who wants a new friend!)

Ladies, I’m so glad to hear all the positive responses! 🙂 My Darling Husband (I accidentally typed Fiance at first and had to change it-hehe) does not realize how many calories are in foods at all. We went to the grocery store yesterday, and he was all excited when he saw that Butoni pasta only had three hundred calories…until he realized that was only in three pieces lol.
It definitely helps me realize how much high-calorie snacking I was doing before!

Good luck! I’ve used it and I find that my greatest secret to success was lots of little exercise breaks. I might go for a 20 minute walk/run in the morning, walk for half my lunch break, then walk after dinner. I don’t eat back these calories, but they really add up!! I also find the only way for me to stick to a diet is to pack my lunch. Bringing leftovers saves money and calories!

I just found the online MFP message board that shows pictures of people who have lost 100+ lbs…amazing! 😀

There is a Wedding bee group on MFP. Join 🙂
I really like it. I signed up a few months ago. It was more to just track my food intake not specifically to lose weight, but I’ve found that I snack much less when I have to write it down. I guess it works because I’ve lost 9 pounds so far.
Also add me if you want. I’m mariakhar on MFP.

I LOVE MFP as well!! I’ve been tracking for almost 200 days straight and have found it to be very helpful. I love the accountability, as well as the support of friends (and Bees). I’ve lost 21 pounds so far by tracking my weight and exercising 4-5 times per week. GO MFP!
Feel free to add me … same name … just mention you’re from WB. Good Luck!!!

I love MyFitnessPal! I started using the app in February and I’ve lost 24 lbs – I have 10 lbs to go to my goal weight.
Tracking my food and using the food database helps me stay on track and made me realize just how many calories I was mindlessly consuming before. I still eat most of the foods I want, I just have to figure out how to work them in to my overall calorie allowance.
It’s great to have “pals”, too – I love seeing a lot of other Bees there – everyone is so friendly and supportive!
The message boards are amazing – there is enough information to read for days! I especially like the Success Stories section which keeps me motivated.
Feel free to add me!

Another MFP lover here. I started about 2 months ago, and I’ve lost 8lbs (another 5-7lbs to go before I hit my goal). I tried to lose weight off and on for two years before joining, but I was never very successful (lost 2 gain 1, lose 3 gain 4, etc.). I thought I had pretty good eating habits, but I was very wrong. I had no idea how many calories are in some “good” things. MFP keeps me accountable and helps me make better choices.
I track everyday except for Saturday (cheat day), and I haven’t gone over any day. If it looks like I’ll be over my calorie limit for the day towards the end of the night, I’ll exercise more to solve the problem (so it encourages more exercise too). I love that it gives you a starting calorie goal based on no exercise then adds calories for the exercise you do. I usually eat about 50-75% of my “extra” exercise calories to account for the possibility of MFP overestimating how many I burned. I really like the system!
You can add me too if you want. I’m MrsPoodles on there.
