I have a similar problem. I’m a morning smoothie person but it’s been really difficult to cut the sugar out of them. I have a super high sugar diet and I just can’t seem to balance that with things tasting good so I’m focusing on no “added” sugars.

This morning I did an “orange julius” smoothie

I used regular orange juice (most recipes call for frozen concentrate) add milk (I use almond myself, original 60 calories)

For added thickness I use a banana (frozen is best) and a handful of ice cubes. I also add a scoop of protein powder. I used GNCs vanilla lean powder. I like that it adds sweetness without too much actual sugar but I’m soo sensitive to the “protein powder” feel and taste that I can’t use most of them. The banana flavor is actually my favorite but that’s too much banana for this particular smoothie, you’ll lose the orange feel.

And this is terrible but I added a scoop of vanilla frozen yogurt 🤣 it wasn’t very thick so I was trying to plump it up. I’m definitely interested in other smoothie recipes!

My little hidden secret is adding some cooked oatmeal. A lot of people add uncooked oats, but I can’t get past the grittiness of it. The cooked oats adds thickness to it, and it used to hold me over well to lunch.

I drink breakfast smoothies every day.  In fact, I’m having one right now…

This one is romaine, pineapples, bananas, greek yogurt and almond milk.  I usually buy a bunch of fruits and veggies for the week, cut them up, mix and match and freeze them in ziplock bags.

Some of my favorites are:

– spinach, strawberries, chia seeds, chocolate protein powder, cocoa powder and almond milk

– kale, mixed berries, chia seeds, vanilla protein powder, cinnamon and almond milk.  Somehow this one ends up tasting a little like pina colada

– gotu kola, raspberries, macro greens powder, greek yogurt and almond milk

– watercress, apples, hemp hearts, vanilla protein powder, matcha powder and almond milk

This one has no greens but it’s oh so delicious…strawberries, bananas, cream cheese, greek yogurt and almond milk

My favorite is like a Starbuks Frappachino without all the sugar! I make it like my bulletproof coffee. I really crave this in the spring/summer

1/2 Scoop Salted Caramel Protein powder (I use Quest as I am keto so I need to keep my cabs down)

1/2 scoop of collagen

1tbsp MCT oil (again, keto)

4oz iced coffee (I literally just brew a big batch of coffee and put it in the fridge and pull it out as I need)

4oz almond milk – unsweetened vanilla

1 tsp of vanilla, caramel or other extract (whatever I’m in the mood for!)

crushed ice

Blend it all together and it is fantastic! I will sometimes add a tbsp of unsweetened coca powder and Lily’s unsweetened chocolate chips to make it more chocolaty if I am feeling it!

Our favorite is made from peanut butter powder, rice milk, frozen banana, agave nectar (it doesn’t clump up like honey).  After put in a bowl, I then sprinkle a smattering of Heath Bar chips on top (found in the chocolate chip section with baking supplies) and some unsweetened coconut flakes, one walnut half and sometimes a date.

We do this recipe as thick as possible, so quite a bit of the banana.

I used to have one for lunch as a meal supplement. I used a vegan meal replacement protein powder (similar to Shakeology), kale or spinach, an apple, cinnamon, vanilla Greek yogurt, a little dab of honey and almond butter and a handful of ice with a splash of vanilla almond milk. Flax or chia seeds if I had them on hand.

Another guilty pleasure with too much sugar is a plain strawberry, banana and papaya juice blend. Yum!

I really need to get back into doing these for lunch. I felt great when I wasn’t weighed down with a big heavy meal, plus it was so much easier than cooking for just myself.

kmbumbee190618 :  I loooove Bowmar Nutrition! You need to get Protein Blueberry Cheesecake if you haven’t already! I always feel the need to tell people I’m not affiliated with them, because when I talk about them I feel like people probably think that! Haha! I also love their collagen and greens, but I prefer taking those separately as an afternoon snack with a crystal lite packet. Their BCAAs are also amazing.. and I’m trying their preworkout for the first time today.. can’t wait! I’m a little obsessed with their stuff lol

Do you have Protein Frosted Cookie? I love making cherry chip shakes with it:
1 scoop PFC (Protein Birthday cake would work just as well though)
2 cups ice (or however much you want for the consistency you like)
3 marischino cherries + 1 Tbsp of the juice
1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk
Top with Fat Free Reddi Whip + 1 cherry

Banana Cream Pie
1 scoop PFC (Protein Birthday cake would work just as well though)
2 cups ice (or however much you want for the consistency you like)
1/2 banana
1 Tbsp sugar free banana pudding mix
1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk
Top with Fat Free Reddi Whip + slice of banana

With Protein Hot Chocolate I like making Butterfinger shakes with either PB2 or regular peanut butter if I have enough fat left for the day.
1 scoop PHC
2 cups ice
1 Tbsp peanut butter or 12g PB2
1 Tbsp Sugar Free Butterscotch pudding mix
1/2 cup regular unsweetened alomnd milk
Top with FF Redi whip + sugar free choc syrup (I prefer Smuckers)

Do you ever bake with their protein powders? I LOVE baking with their stuff.

kmbumbee190618 :

acai fruit (could be frozen, actually better). Blend with a little bit of almond milk

Add banana, strawberry, other berries. Even granola and honey

So yummy! Its a yogurt bowl  but with acai being the puree in place of yogurt.

Or:

instant coffee mix

frozen banana,

almond milk,

spinach,

ice,

chia seeds

Can add chocolate protein powder

So yummy 🙂 Serve cold.

kmbumbee190618 :  One difference is the fat is very low in the powder (2 g), and also the protein is double!  Blends really nicely as a powder too.

kmbumbee190618 :  I make very simple smoothies. 1/2 frozen berries (raspberries most if the time, but sometime blueberries or strawberries), 1 whole banana, top off to 400ml in blender cup (idk, a cup maybe) Unsweetened Vanilla Cashew Silk. It’s easy and yummy
