I have an elephant too! My best friend and I have nearly the same tattoo with a few subtle differences. They were a birthday gift from her to me last year around the time I had to move away from her.

It’s not the best picture; you can’t really see where he is, but he’s sitting on top of my right foot. Please excuse the lotion, the picture was taken shortly after I got it.

Please excuse the crappy photo – this was taken shortly after I had it done.  It’s of a raven and a dove, and it’s based off of this poem by Leonard Cohen.

It was my first and only tattoo (though I plan on getting more done) and I went by myself and didn’t even cry!

Here’s a photo of two of ours that our wedding photographer took. His is kinda hard to see with the way the light is hitting it:

My first tattoo is the star of David on my pelvic bone. It is the symbol of Venus, the perfect sanction of male and female. (Appropriate placing, eh?)

Below is my second tattoo. Every female on my Fiance’s side of the family has had a form of cancer. It runs in my family as well. The most prominent two have been breast and ovarian. If we are to have a daughter she will probably end up with one.

I have 5 tats. My name and zodic sign. I also have a phoenix with “Virtuous” written above it. It’s symbol is often associated with feminine qualities, each part of its body representing a specific virtue. The flight of the phoenix is a symbol of rebirth and the resurrection, leaving the old world for the new world of the spirit, dying and rising again, reborn and purification and transformation through fire and adversity.

I’m attaching pics of the one on my foot and my elephant. I’m in a sorority that collects trunk up elephants for good luck.

This was my first ‘big’ tattoo I got in college. It is a Banksy stencil and poem.

The words read: Beyond watching eyes with sweet and tender kisses our souls reached out to eachother in breathless wonder

The stencil is entitled the Girl with the Heartshaped Balloon.

Thanks! Yea, it was pretty important to me that I have a custom piece done. The guy who did it was really into the idea and I think he did a pretty fantastic job. I am thinking my next tattoo will probably be inspired by another one of my favourite poets. ๐Ÿ™‚

@florence: I’m addicted to poetry…it has so much meaning to me and has gotten me through so many hard times in my life. I write it and read it. I’m obssesed with it. So hats off for picking something so amazing. My Fiance hates tats but one day I’m hoping to convince him to let me get a piece of poetry on my body that I get published.

Mine are of a tribal Dragon in the shape on a broken infinity symbol.  I got this to represent several things that dragons stand for but also to cover my abusive ex’s name that was on my lower back, i though the broken infinity was fitting. It was done several years ago and I need to get it touched up and finished as well, (the tat guy that did it kinda sucked) The second is not finished I have to wait for it to finish healing (about another 3 weeks) to get the white, yellow, orange, and a bit more red.  It is of the universe (my universe) and it is for my kids, Parice and Jayden!  It has the sun around it cause they light up my life!
