For comparison sake, I would love to hear what other brides spent on photography! I’m trying to create our budget, and photos are important to me, so I need a better frame of reference for average costs.
Ideally I would like a package with:
Every image edited
All high-res digital photos
Complimentary engagement session
…for $4,000 or less is in the Chicago area. If you could share what your package included, the price, and city, I would appreciate it so much!

We are spending $4.5K. It’s all relative – the question you should be asking 1. Do you LOVE their work? 2. Can you afford it?
In the creative field, its really hard to compare. How do you rate the value of a Gaugin vs. Van Gogh? How do you rate the value of your favourite rom-com vs. a dramatic thriller? It’s all in the eyes of the beholder…. and the mood you’re in, what you PERSONALLY value…
On average, a beginner photographer should charge around $1500-2000. A mid-range photographer with decent image and a few WOW shots will be around $2500-3500. Seasoned pros with very few misses will be in the 4K range… but again, it depends on your eye and what YOU like…

(my pagacke only included 8 hours and our hi-res files) FYI

I find really the price corresponds heavily with how much post processing is involved. I’ve gotten on average higher quotes from the heavily edited, soft, romantic styles than the more natural, photojournalistic styles. The other thing to consider is some less local photographers. I’m in California – several of the SF based photographers are so expensive that I’ve found photographers from SLO or the Central Valley who are overall cheaper even after adding in travel fees.

My friend’s package was $3,800 in Oak Brook, included two shooters, digital images, and instead of an engagement session they did an after wedding session around Chicago. I believe it was 10 hours.
Let me know if you’d like the photographer’s name.

We’re spending $1800.
All day photography, until we tell them to leave
400 edited hi-res pictures with printing rights.
This is really cheap for around where I am(MN) but they’re friends of my sister, who is also a photographer. It’s something they do more on the “side” but they’re still amazing at it!

- Wedding: August 2016 - World\'s Fair Pavilion
We’re planning to spend around $6,000 for our St. Louis photographer. We received quotes from three high-end photographers and all were in the same general range.
– 10 hours
– Two photographers
– All hi-res photos on CD and private online gallery
– 30 page wedding album for us
– Two smaller versions of our wedding album for our parents

I’m also in Chicago and my photog budget is about half of yours. You can definitely find someone who will fit what you are looking for! You might not get the 10 hours, but I’ve seen a few people who have 2 shooters and engagement sessions. DM me and I can share some names 🙂

- Wedding: Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception/The Gallery
northshorebride: I’m in KC, which tends to trend a little less expensive than Chicago, but our photographer is $4000 for 8 hours, two photogaphers, high res images & printing/use release, engagement shoot, and bridal or “style” shoot before or after the wedding. This is also including a 10% discount.
We know he’s a bit of a splurge, though his prices are pretty much in line for the quality and style we like, in our area.
This is his site if you’re interested, I know he travels quite a bit and Chicago is a very easy trip from KC. http://marknagelportraits.com/

I’m also a Chicago bee. I got a some quotes that would fit in your budget, but may not check every notch on your list.
Amanda Megan Miller was recommended to me by another photog. http://www.amandameganmiller.com/home Her base price was $3,100.
My photographer is Mark Federighi http://markfederighiphotography.com/ and fits into your budget, but only has one shooter.
You may need to bend your list or budget a little to get everything you want here.
