Ummm, wow.  That’s just a little bit cold!  Hydration is key in the winter to keep skin looking fresh.  I always use a moisturizer year round.  But hand lotion is a MUST for me this time of year.  I need to have one everywhere…office, car, home.  My hands get very dry.  And my lips are always moist thanks to Kiehl’s Lip Balm.

Static in the hair…I don’t have advice on this one.  I will be curious to see what others say.

A bottle of pure glycerin..they sell it at walmart for like 2.50 by like the pharmacy section. I like it better than lotion. It cheaper and it’s great for elbows and knees. You can put some on your lips too. Glycerin goes a long way. At first when you put it on, it just feels like it’s on your skin, but give it a while and skin feels so much better! I live in the NV desert so, I am always dry here! My finance is from Canada..now I don’t even wanna know how that kind of cold feels like! lol

@mrs.peters.to.be: When I moved to Sweden in the winter my body went into shock I swear and broke out in hives from the cold and the only thing that worked for my was The Body Shop Hemp Products. My palms would turn red and burn and their hand cream would instantly make it stop.

For static hair you a dryer sheet or to keep in your purse the travel bounce instant wrinkle releaser.

@bohemianbailie: Yes!  The dryer sheet.  That I have heard before!

@mrs.peters.to.be: You might want to look into Eucerin cream.  Not sure if they sell it Canada but I’m sure you might be able to get it online somewhere.

Currently I’m using St. Ives lotion (good price point and they don’t test on animals).

For hair, I have a bottle of Sunsilk Anti-Static Vitamin D winter spray.  I bought it at WM a few years ago, and it lasts like crazy.  I spray it on my hands and then run it through my hair and it works so well! Plus it was only about $5.

My skin gets really dry too, so I just moisturize a lot.

I use men’s vaseline lotion for my hands…no joke, I think maybe they think men’s hands get rougher than women’s? I dont know but it works it’s magic! πŸ™‚

I get rashes from extreme dryness in the winter, so here is what I use:

  • To stay clean:  Aveeno Skin Relief body wash (soap is way too drying)
  • To stay smooth:  Trader Joe’s shaving cream in mango honey
  • To stay moisturized:  Aveeno Skin Relief lotion
  • For my hands, elbows, and feet:  Neutrogena Norweigian Formula Hand Cream
  • For my lips:  Kiss My Face vanilla honey lip balm
  • For the inside of my nose (gross, I know):  Aquaphor
  • For my hair:  M.O.P. leave-in conditioner after M.O.P. Mixed Greens moisturizing S&C in the shower
  • For everything:  lots and lots and lots of water (sometimes in the form of herbal or green tea)!

I also put a thin layer of Aquaphor on my eyelashed before going to bed – it really helps them stay hydrated and not fall out during the winter.

Once a week I will take a bath with 2 packets of Aveeno oatmeal bath.  It REALLY helps combat my dry skin.

Good luck!  I love winter, but hate what it does to my body.

@septcabride: The Trader Joes body scrubs are also really good, they come in a tub and will last a long time if you take care and put the lid on correctly. I forgot one time and it got knocked down and all that was left was scrub with no juice.

@bohemianbailie:  yes.  I love TJ’s bath products.  Their hand soaps are especially great.  And the price can’t be beat!  I also love the shampoo and conditioners – they aren’t great for everyday use for me (I have high-maintenance curly hair), but they are wonderful to keep in a guest bath.
