Per BF’s instructions to go look at a store that is having a sale, I found the perfect ring! We decided to go get it today….however we aren’t doing it the conventional way. We are splitting the cost. Its $467.50 total and we are each putting in money. Neither is contributing more than the other. I was just wondering if that was weird or if anyone else had done that. I know some people my raise an eyebrow or two but it’s the perfect ring! What do you think?
We’re getting the stone from a family jeweler so that will be later.

I think the ring is amazing!! And I think that splitting the cost is just fine. I mean **really** once you’re married all your funds will be merged so it won’t really matter who paid for what. If splitting it now means you can afford it without financing it, all the better! My Fiance paid for my whole ring, but it drained his account. That means that when we put down the down payment on our house in a few weeks, I am paying the whole thing (which is actually about the same cost as the ring). It all evens out in the end. ๐

That’s such a gorgeous ring, and I think it’s a great idea to split the cost!

I think splitting the cost is becoming more and more common – and I think it’s a great idea! Especially nowadays when the economy is bad anyways why spend that much on a ring on your own? I know some girls want their SO to buy their ring and it’s important to them and I think that’s fine too, but if you and your SO are up for it then go ahead – there’s no rules to ring buying!

@CorgiTales: I’m so glad that you said I’m not a weirdo. I just feel like anything that will keep us out of the financing world will be a big help in the end. I hate that the sale is right here after Christmas when all the bills are coming in from buying gifts but hey when the price is right you have to make a move.

@amanda.lynn: thank you! I can’t wait to have it!
@littlemissmoo: Thank you for seeing the economical side of this. Right now it’s hard to find a deal so I’m not going to miss out on this one!

I don’t think it’s weird at all that you are splitting the cost. My FH and I are doing the same for both our wedding bands, we combined the cost of both and are splitting bc my ring is much more than his and I felt bad. HOWEVER lol I have paid for almost all of it to this point bc I make more money than him and with the holidays it put things on a hold but hopefully by next week we will be paying them off and picking them up ๐

I think it’s totally fine. You’ll be married with joint finances soon anyway!
My Fiance technically paid for the ring himself, but we were living together at the time and bascially financially dependant on each other. So while it technically came out of his account, it was our money.
You each chipping in is no different.
BTW- Love that setting!

yay! I just read your other post about this ring! I’m so glad that you are getting it, and good job incorporating the fam friend by getting the stone from him! ๐
No, i don’t think its weird at all! My Fi and I are paying on my ring together! We share finances so it was a given that I would help pay. I think its more common these days to do things like that.

Well………It’s GONE!!! I went back at lunch and it was gone! I’m devestated! I broke down in the car on the phone with BF! But he reassured me that his family friend could get me one just like it and everything would be fine. I just hate the thought of it costing so much. I am really mad at that store! Why couldn’t they just hold it for an hour knowing that I was coming back to get it at lunch. I’m kicking myself for not going first thing this morning. Ugh stupid work! Oh well…I guess I get to shop around some more.

Oh no! Oh pec1216 I’m sorry ๐ That bites that the store didn’t hold it. Is it a chain store where they may have the same setting in another branch?
