I just found out I was pregnant yesterday and according to how you calculate pregnancy time I’m at about 5 weeks. Since yesterday I’ve been noticing these sharp pains in my lower right abdomen (right near the hip bone). They aren’t severe or anything but they are persistent and sometimes they take me by surprise and I have to take a breath. They rarely happen when I’m laying down – mostly when I’m moving. I’m really worried it could be an ectopic pregnancy or something like that. Is it too early for round ligament pain? I’ve never been pregnant before so I’m really worried 🙁
Also, my OBGYN said they wouldn’t see me until 8 weeks. I have an appointment with my regular doctor tomorrow, but I’m not sure if they can check this kind of stuff?

nope, this is most likely round ligament.
the ligaments that hold your uterus are beginning to stretch, and they are on either side of your abdomen (some people only feel it on one side). it can be very painful, especially during movement.
i felt mine early too, and felt them when i got up too fast, was jumping out of my tall SUV, or was running or jogging.
i don’t think you have anything to worry about.

@sillyme: Thanks Silly! Of course I’m going to worry about everything now – just hoping everything’s normal 🙂

I had the same problem for several weeks. Your body is already stretching and making room for things to start shifting. Unless you have bleeding or pain that last consistantly for a couple of hours I would just do your best to breath through it and try not to worry.
Mine went away about the same time morning sickness (or really, all day sickness) kicked in 🙂 Wishing you a healthy and strong pregnancy!

@sillyme: I felt mine early, too.
But if pain rates 7/10 or more–go to the ER.

Im pregnant, probably about 8 weeks. I havent even had my first obgyn appt yet. let me start by saying, i can take some pain but My pain is like a 10!!!! I went to the dr after a night of horrible pain and vomitting a couple times..and the dr basically said take tylenol and welcome to pregnancy!!!! Lol
we did test for any infections like a bladder or uti but they were negative.
we also made sure it wasnt stuck in the tube and it wasnt. Dr said everything looked ok. The problem with it being so early in pregnancy is that you cant see much anyways.
These pains come on at a moments notice. Sometimes they last for almost an hour. They wake me up in the middle of the night. They come on at the end of the day when im sitting at my desk. Whenever they want! They suck! Sometimes i put the ice pack on for a minute and it helps. everyone talks about morning sickness but noone ever talks about these pains! Welcome to pregnancy!! ehhhhhh!

I had a very similar pain on the right side too. I was so worried so I called the doc. They told me to go to the hospital for an scan to rule out ecoptic. They did a US and couldn’t find anything wrong. It went away the day after I went to the doc. ::shrugs shoulders ::: My advice is to call your doc and see what they say.

I had the same thing happen…had an ultrasound done to check for an ectopic, everything was fine! I’m 31 weeks and some change right now. FWIW, I’ve had off and on cramping the ENTIRE time. My Dr. says that it’s just your body stretching and growing.
