(Closed) Shaving 1mm off the shank to make ring more narrow?

I personally would not to do that. I think if you want a thinner band you should just re-set it. You are paying for the gold, why toss money down the toilet? Plus, if they do that and mess it up OR you end up NOT liking it, then what?

Personally, I would just find a setting you  like better and do that…but that’s just my opinion.

Has your BGD ring been made yet?  If not, ask if they can customize it to have a narrower shank.

@cranraspberry:  1mm would be a ton to shave off (in the world of ring shanks).  Can they just put your head on a different/thinner shank?

I agree with you when you say that a shank that is too wide can make a stone look smaller than it is. As other bees said, perhaps re-setting the stone is best. Otherwise, ask your jeweller. I’ve asked so many things to my jeweller, and sometimes they can do impressive modifications, sometimes they advise against it.
