What are you all doing for, uhm, hair removal? Are you getting your legs waxed, bikini wax, the whole nine yards…or just shaving?
I have never waxed before but it sounds like there is no hassle to shave for weeks after that…which would be nice on the honeymoon haha.
Also, when you get waxed does your skin react to it a lot?

I just shave my legs, but bikini wax all the way! It hurts a little at first, but it’s way worth it! It looks and feels way better than shaving IMO.

I haven’t waxed in a while because of the money. I might when we go on our anniversary trip because shaving the bikini area is annoying and waxing is definitely worth it there.

Right now, I shave due to cost, but waxing is a lot better IMO. It takes three waxing cycles to get a good groove going (because hair grows in three stages – according to my waxer anyway.) BUT at that point it stops hurting so much and stays smooth for a lot longer. I am very pale, with red hair, with is supposedly one of the most painful ladies to be, waxing-wise, and I didn’t think the pain was too bad. An Advil and tequila shot beforehand helped. 🙂 If you decide to wax, don’t skimp – get a good, experienced waxer – and she should be all done in 10 minutes or so. Pretty quick!

I shave my legs (yay for being 1/4 korean–we’re very light and thin in the body hair department) but i go for bikini waxes….it sucks at $70/5 weeks but I can’t NOT go anymore. Now it like grosses me out to not go. And i’m not paranoid about wearing swimsuits, short shorts, or anything being unkept. And my husband likes it. Nuff said. My skin is irritated for about 2 days but I use Finipil to keep the bumps away, I exfoliate, and I check regularly for any beginnings of ingrown hairs and use tweezers to make sure they stay out. OTherwise they get inflammed and they hurt and they’re icky. I use Aveda Calming Oil all down there for a day–it keeps the sticky residue away, is very soothing, and keeps your skin from rubbing and chafing, which is VERY painful when it’s freshly waxed. The oil is really soothing, but like $22. Oh well, iv’e had it for like a year and it’s still 3/4 full. We use it for massages, too.
The first time is the worst time ever. It’s denser than it will ever be again and bites pretty fierce. But the second time, you’re like, “whoa, that was WAY easier”. Don’t judge based on your first time =].

I shave my legs, but I’m a big advocate for the bikini wax! It hurts, its true, but only the first few times. If you go often enough, its only a lil uncomfortable but there’s no pain. The plus side is that it is soooo much smoother, and it grows back much slower.

I just did a bikini wax for the first time and it wasn’t as bad as I expected. I will definitely continue to do so unless it starts to get cost prohibitive. As for the legs though, I just go with shaving…doesn’t seem worth the $$ to wax, though you’re right – it’d be nice to not have to think about it during the h-moon. I’ll splurge if I can afford to before the wedding =)

My mom is from France, and waxing is very popular in France, so I’ve been waxing for years. I used to wax my legs, underarms and bikini line, but now I just do the bikini line. It’s really easy to do at home and costs practically nothing. Just buy one of those small microwavable wax jars from GiGi (http://www.amazon.com/GiGi-Purpose-Honee-Microwave-Formula/dp/B000SX7NX6/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&s=beauty&qid=1270146420&sr=1-8), a pack of muslin strips, and use a large popiscle stick or old butter knife. Just make sure to put baby powder on the area before waxing and use some Jojoba oil on the area after waxing to remove any leftover wax. Easy peasy and super cost effective! I’ve had the same jar of microwavable wax for 5 years.

I always get really bad razor burn and/or ingrown hairs – – as a result I am a wax’er for my eyebrows and bikini (brazilian) and then for my lip/chin (yes I have those annoying devil’ish black chin hairs) I am a sugar’ing gal. For some reason the wax irritates my lip…Its nice that the sugaring doesn’t bother me, I don’t sugar my bikini or brows b/c I find it a bit more painful

@PortlandBride – I had never thought of trying it at home! I am a little nervous, but I just might try it haha.
Thanks everyone for the opinions! I am definitely going to do something for the bikini line but I’m reconsidering the legs now!

For my wedding/honeymoon I will just shave my legs and I will get a brazilian. I have had 2 brazilians before and 1 was really painful and 1 was not so bad. It is so worth the pain though!! Especially for my wedding/honeymoon!

I gave up on waxing after one time and just went for the laser hair removal. I shave my legs and tweeze the eyebrows but after two unsuccessful and painful bikini waxes that missed spots I said screw that! Yes, laser hair removal is expensive (so I didn’t go on a vacation this year), and yes, it hurts a lot (though I am DEFINITELY getting the numbing cream for my next appt), but think about how many painful bikini waxes you don’t have to go through from now on and how much money you end up saving.

I don’t think I would recommend waxing your own bikini area. The legs would be fine to do on your own but people have a hard time waxing their own bikini well without feeling like they are ripping off their lady parts.

if you wax regularily it gets easier – i haven’t shaved my legs since about last august because i’ve been getting them waxed and i couldn’t ever go back.
if you find someone who does it at home as a sort of small business it’s much less expensive. i know my full legs are $25, and i think with with a brazilian it’s $30. when i compare that to the salon i used to go to just a full leg was $55. yikes.
