I think it was unprofessional to schedule an interview with such little notice however I’m not surprised by an e-mail.

She probably thought it’d be more rude to call you during your weekend to schedule an interview.

I’d be a bit annoyed by the real short notice for the interview, but the method of communication is very standard.

Especially since HR people usually like having a paper (or e-mail) trail of everything.

Since you haven’t done many job hunts it probably seemed weird, but I assure you it’s quite normal. They  most likly are screening lots of applicants and clearly calling references so she might not have the time to return your calls. Generally after an interview, I may send a quick email or card thanking them, then I don’t call/email until a couple of weeks have gone by if I haven’t heard anything. I do think it’s rude for them to not inform you of their choice once the hired someone.I think it’s also important not to view this through a social lens vs not taking it personal as it is business.

@tobikay:  You may have clicked great and she may have thought the same thing, but e-mail really is the main mode of communication when there are interviews being scheduled etc.

The only time I’ve really gotten calls is when I’ve first submitted a resume so they can get a bit more of a feel for me and then when a job offer comes through. Otherwise everything else is usually over e-mail.

Honestly, I hire people quite frequently and feel she did nothing inappropriate, at all.  This isn’t a social situation, it’s a professioal one.  You are just one of many candidates and, really, you have to fit into her schedule, not the other way around.  Evidently you did well enough on the initial interview to warrant another shot, so I say be grateful, do your best, and good luck!

Pretty normal. I didn’t hear anything for nearly a month after my first. Then, got a call that they wanted me there in 36 hours for a second interview.
