I would think about whether it is really ok with you before you go ahead and tell her to buy it. It sounds like you are still a little unsure and you don’t want it to bother you that day, or in your pcitures. I am sure if you asked she would make it work for the day, or at least for the ceremony. If you are really 100% sure that you are fine with it then go for it but I would think about it (maybe even talk to Fiance and Mom/MIL about it) first.

@shalaklein: Is it that she hates dresses? Or is she truely uncomfortable in a dress? If she just doesn’t like them, then too bad….I think she should wear a dress. If she is truly uncomfortable then I think the 2 suggestions above are appropriate. Maybe something with a little sparkle to dress it up…and look less like a business suit.

I like the idea of the jumpsuit  – my girls wore the chocolate brown VS convertible dress and they have convertible jumpsuits too on Amazon.com – maybe you could propose that to all of your BMs?

@KitKatNYC:  I totally agree.  There is a difference between just not wanting to wear a dress, and literally being UNCOMFORTABLE in dresses.  There are friends of mine that I would NEVER subject to wearing a dress, not only for their comfort, but because it would look awkward.

Does this girl ever wear dresses?  Does she tend to dress in a more masculine manner?  If so, she might not only be uncomfortable in a dress, she might be visibly uncomfortable, which will affect the way she carries herself.

My fiance (female) would also never wear a dress.  And frankly, I wouldn’t want to see her in a dress…..it would be awkward for everyone involved.

I’m with you, too, kitkatnyc. If she just doesn’t like dresses, she can pretty much just suck it up. You did ask her to find a dress, after all.

But if there’s a reason she doesn’t want to wear a dress, I could see letting her wear something else. I like the flowy pants–it’s what mom wore to my sister’s wedding, and it looked nice.

Is she more of a masculine dresser? My friend has a Bridesmaid or Best Man that wears men’s clothing, so she gave her the option of wearing a tux.
