I’ve gotten mine done with shellac twice now, and both times they lasted me more than 2 weeks, and I type and use my hands a lot at work, so nail polish NEVER stays on! Shellac is DEFINITELY worth it – I was amazed with the results.

I booked my pre-wedding appointment to have them done and I have no worries about my nails looking great on my wedding day.

@VintagePink: I tried it last month and loved it. I didn’t have to go back to get it taken off. I was able to peal it off after about 2 weeks (didn’t have time to make another appointment).

I agree I don’t have mine soaked off. They just peel off after 2-3 weeks then I go back in and get them put back on. I have them on now!! LOVE THEM!!! I cleaned the house top to bottom yesterday and not one chip, and this mani is over a week old! ๐Ÿ˜€

I get UV Gel which is the same as Shellac (which I think is a brand name) but that is different than Gel nails (which are like acrylics but more gentle). I’m on my 2nd week of mine (been getting them since my wedding in Oct) and I love them. Just know that you will see nail growth by the nail bed, so get a french manicure or a light color so it won’t be obvious as they grow out.

Just be careful when peeling them off. It’s super damaging to your nails if they don’t naturally start to bubble up. I have super strong nails and after I chip off the polish my nails are super flimsy and break. I just went out and bought 100% acetone polish remover. You soak your fingers for 10-15 mins and it should come off without damaging your nails.

I just got shellac done last week and overall I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.

BUT, the polish is starting to peel off the nails on my left hand, but look completely fine on my right. I’m a little disappointed since its supposed to last for at least 2 weeks….thinking about going to the salon to see what they can do.

i’ve had one, it was great! lasted 3 weeks=) doesn’t come off with acetone remover, need 100% acetone, so just keep that in mind beforehand that you may want to get some to have on hand.

I’ve been very interested about this too! I have a friend who did it recently and didn’t have such a good experience.. they did chip a bit. And it costs money to go back and get it removed. Apparently you aren’t supposed to remove it yourself. So I’m not sure how I feel about that!

@hotchocolate: i asked about this while i was there having them done. she said you just need to be sure to soak them in 100% acetone for about 10 minutes, then use an orange stick to push it off. you shouldn’t just peel it off while it’s hard though because it can take layers of your nail off too.

I got a shellac mani in Feb and it was great–lasted a full two weeks and then some!  The only issues I had with it for the wedding are:

-limited color selection

-it doesn’t add length to your nails.

I want my nails to be a nice, uniform length for the wedding (and they break all the time), so I’m going to go with the traditional UV gel mani.
