I did shellac nails and they ruined my nails.  Took about 3 months to get them straightened back out.  They looked great but my nails really suffered for the look.

I wasn’t a fan of the Shellac brand manicure. I did have a Gelish manicure and I loved it! It lasted for about 17 (!!) perfect, shiny, chip free days before I used an acetone soak to take the polish off. They didn’t ruin my nails and neither did the Shellac. This is a pic of my nails when I had the Gelish on them. Hope you like the Shellac!

You have to take them off with an acetone soak – at home or at the salon. DO NOT try to peel them off – that will screw up the nails.

I am a shellac manicure fanatic. So much that i bought a kit to do them myself!!! I love the polish- especially if you are busy and use your hands alot (to type, do dishes, etc.) i wouldnt say that they made my nails grow, but they did protect them from any potential breaking or chipping!! The polish lasts up to 3 weeks without chipping but i tend to take it off between 10-14 days because i do not like when my nails grow out and the polish leaves a gap! Just let me know if you have any questions.

First pic is one i got done at the salon

Second pic is one i did myself with my new kit.

@MrsFuzzyFace:  Thanks! You should really try the shellac. And post a pic if you do!

My aunt gets it done and I think it looks great! She really loves it as well.

@jenefer:  both your nails and ering are stunning! I can’t believe how good the ones you did at home look.

I love Shellac. It is amazing and has never ruined my nails. Ive been getting Shellac manicures every 2 weeks since July – with some breaks in between and I haven’t had any issues. Plus, in my opinion, acryllic nails are out of style. The more natural look is much more modern.

Just make sure you go to a certified shellac salon! There are some out there that claim shellac but aren’t trained in it.

I have a lot of friends who have done a gel manicure and most of them have said it ruins their nails. Is that the same?

I’ve never done shellac or gellish…but I think I’m gonna do them for my wedding. I am hoping that they would last till I come back from my honeymoon.

I had shellac nails once. My nails did grow with the shellac on them, but once I had it taken off they were weak and ugly… but not as bad they were after acrylic nails.
