My best friend of 24+ years (we’re both 27) has been engaged for less than a week, and we’re talking wedding gowns. Something we’ve done for a few years now, just dreaming but it hit me, she’s really getting married. I’m getting emotional, sad for a few reasons, but happy for others. Does anyone else know what I’m talking about? Kinda like I’m sad that she’s leaving me in singledom, a little jealous that she’s looking at dresses for real as opposed to fun, but happy for her and happy that she’s happy. I’ve been on an emotional rollercoaster since she announced it on Friday lol. Anyone else have this happen? any advice?

That’s all understandable.

@annasaf83: I am 26 and most of my childhood friends are married and on kid #3. I have been in your boat time and time again. BUT now it’s my turn! (ring is coming soon & wedding date chosen). So just like they had their turn to be happy and bask…I’ll have my chance at that happiness as well. I know how it is to be happy for another person, yet sad. My experience has been that friendships do change a little once the marriage/kids comes into play.

Your friend announced it on Friday? My friend called and told me she got engaged on Friday too!
I took it really hard. I am happy for her but at the same time, I’m tired of seeing everyone else get that ring and commitment from their SOs while I can’t even get a timeline. She has also been dating her Boyfriend or Best Friend a year (shorter than me and my SO) so that’s another factor. Plus, her ring is sooooo pretty.
As a way to get over the jealousy, I’m planning on purchasing an congrats on your engagement card and sending it to her. Maybe if I trick myself into not being jealous, I won’t be.

Just don’t (and I tell you this from experience!) let this throw you into a Waiting Breakdown with SO. This happened when my best friend got married several years ago and it wasn’t pretty.

@wanttobemrsb, I’m trying to jump right in with gifts and planning so that I feel like I’m getting ideas for my own, and helping her out lol. It was working until we were looking at Bridal Gowns last night and I was tearing up thinking about how often we’ve done this before just for play, and now it’s real for her.
@nreed_07, I’m worried about losing her, she grew up a couple of towns from me, we went to the same church since we were babies, but since College she’s been moving further and further away, now she’s states away. There was always the possibility of her moving back, but her Fiance hates the state I live in, so I doubt she’ll ever move back (even though her whole family lives here).
@AmuseMeMusically, I’m trying, I really am lol I was crying last night on the phone with my SO and told him most of the truth, that I’m a ball of emotions because she’s getting married. (but of course left out the part about ‘but not me’) We’ve had a few discussions about waiting since she announced, and he promised me I wouldn’t have to wait years, and he feels that I will be the next of my friends to get engaged (I hope and pray he’s right on that one lol)
