There isn’t any quick fix to shin splits sadly.

The best way to prevent them is proper footwear and soft running/walking surfaces. If you can walk on blacktop versus concrete do that as it absorbs the motion better, thus preventing shin splints.

Here are a few stretches that might be helpful before you walk/run that I do before volleyball:

  • Stand with your heels together and toes pointed out. Slowly raise up onto your toes and lower yourself back down. Repeat 10 times.
  • Stand with your big toes together and heels far apart. Slowly raise up onto your toes, then lower yourself back down. Repeat 10 times.
