hopfenn:  There is no duty on the dress was made in the US, so that’s the first thing you need to  find out. CBSA charges the same % of taxes as if you bought it at home if it was made in the US or Mexico(NAFTA).

If the dress is made outside the NAFTA trade borders, I think the duty is around 18%. They do have an estimator on their website.

BHLDN states their shipping charges on the website.

North America
Standard Shipping:
$35 Flat rate*
Gown Shipping*: Add $40
Customs & Duties: Due on delivery & paid by customer. Your order total will not include duties or taxes.
Countries: Canada

You will want to insist that BHLDN ship by US Postal Service not UPS or Fedex. Those companies charge a substantial brokerage fee.

If you need more exact information, I would phone CBSA after you find out where the dress was made to get a more accurate estimate.

I got a BHLDN dress shipped a couple months ago (didn’t fit – boooo!) and it cost just as stated – $35 for shipping. That was USD so with our crappy dollar it was closer to 50. Worth noting that returns aren’t free.

Hope you love the Juliette! I’m thinking of ordering it to give it a try, it’s so beautiful.

(Basically off topic as I am in the US but…)

I bought the Juliette last week and I loooovvve it.  It’s so… simple and yet really beautiful.  I was a little nervous it would look too much like a bridesmaid dress, but once I put it on, I knew it was my dress.  I am so excited to see others considering it as a wedding dress!  Good luck!

hopfenn:  Do you live anywhere close to the border? If so, there are mail receiving businesses all across the US in border towns, like Ship Happens, Hagens etc. You can have the dress shipped there, then drive across the border to pick it up.

You should still declare it at the border, but most often they just wave you through. They are much more interested in drugs and immigration than shoppers.

hopfenn:  Funny, I looked at the Annabelle too!  I kept hesitating because I didn’t like the way the way the tulle on the top of the dress pulled upwards.  I stumbled on the Juliette and bought it immediately.

I usually buy a size 8 or 10 in dresses, so I went with a 10 and it was slightly loose up top (nothing too crazy and I haven’t decided if it’s worth taking in).  The dress is long, and I am short, so I will need it hemmed.  I will take a picture tonight!

hopfenn:  Actually you’re right – the dress I ordered was a short one (the Marcía) so shipping was regular. The Juliette would probably be the more expensive gown shipping πŸ™

I ordered a few dresses of modcloth for about 300 amercian and I needed to pay 35 dollars canadian for duty when I went to pick it up at post office so for maybe one those gowns it would be over 100 canadian for shipping, duty and taxes??

Sorry I didn’t post a picture!  I went to take one and realized since we are eloping, no one knows I have it, so I couldn’t ask for help…  I tried to take a selfie, but it was hard to get a picture of how it looked without my arms stretched out wide.  I don’t think the selfies in my bathroom lighting do it justice, so I won’t share.  Haha.  But trying it on again made me want to wear it around my house all night.

I didn’t try on the Annabelle, I was going to go to the store (there’s one nearby) to compare fits, but I got too antsy and just ordered the Juliette online and never looked back.

Also, I didn’t pay the extra $15 fee.  Again, I am in the US, but I paid for the dress and $8 for shipping and that’s it.
