I bought the dress, then the shoes.  I didn’t feel restricted at all.  I knew what I wanted and then had them dyed orange!  I love them.

I bought my dress first and then I just found shoes on Zappos.com. I wouldnt buy your shoes first unless they are a color. If you buy ivory or white and then you end up finding a dress you love that is the opposite color you might be in trouble. If you want to buy shoes now you could always buy from Zappos. They have a great return policy! I dont know how long you have to return shoes, but I know that you can send them back and just get another pair if you dont like them!

I bought my shoes first. They are colored and I am just more of a shoe person so it was not hard for me to find. I brought them with me when I went dress shopping to be sure the length worked, fabrics matched, etc.

I bought my dress first, and the only reason I felt restricted with shoes is that I didn’t order extra length on my dress and had to buy flats!

I bought my shoes first because I am a shoe person as well.  Well, guess what?  When I went dress shopping yesterday, the dress I fell in love with so did not go with my shoes.  Oh well, more shoes then!

And yes, do not get your dress hemmed until you have your shoes!

Actually, if you’re tall or really short, having your shoes first could help. If I had my shoes already I would have known to order extra length!! I could be wearing heels! 🙁

I bought my dress first and they only way that restricted which shoes I bought was due to the length of the dress. I didn’t want to have to pay for extra length or to have the dress hemmed, so I needed to find shoes that had a 2″ heel.

Dress. I haven’t bought my shoes yet.

If I had, though, and it didn’t work out, I wouldn’t have minded. I don’t plan on wearing white/ivory shoes, so they’ll be rewearable.

@Masala: ok so i’m in love with shoes also… why not buy them somewhere that you know you can return them??? like kohl’s or nordstrom….i know there are many places out there like that, mostly department stores.  then you can take your shoes with you when you try on dresses.  you don’t have to stick to the shoes you find, but it would certainly give you an idea at the time!!!
