So my current business suit is from Ann Taylor and is a really dark gray / almost black color. I have both skirt and pants to go with it. This is the first suit I’ve owned that wasn’t solid black.
I have a meeting coming up with a VP at my company about a new job opportunity that I really want (I HATE my current job) so while it isn’t an official interview or anything, I want to make a good impression and was planning to wear my suit.
Only problem – I don’t know what color shoes to put with it. My gut instinct was black but then I wondered if it would look weird since the suit is close to black but actually isn’t. So I wondered maybe a gray that is clearly lighter than the suit, or maybe a tan/nude color? Or should I coordinate something with my shirt? I’m at a loss.
So Bees – what color shoes would you wear with a really dark gray / almost black suit??

I have a really dark gray suit and I always wear black shoes with it. Good luck with your big meeting!

I’d got with black – it’ll be a conservative color, and people will listen to your ideas and not be distracted by your shoes 🙂
OR, wear shoes that match your blouse or other accessoriy if you’re feeling snazzy. Black is the safe bet, but a pair of shoes that coordinate with your blouse, belt, purse shouldn’t be bad, either.

I always wear black with my gray suits.

I voted other, but that’s just because I’ve worn black shoes, gray shoes, and many other color shoes (blue, purple, red…probably others too) with my grey suits. I love grey suits (I have at least 3, haha).
Do you work for a conservative company? Or more importantly, is the the VP a conservative guy? I work at a super conservative company, but there are still some director and higher level people who appreciate a personal sense of style and I’ve actually been complimented on my flshier shoes by them. There are others who do not, lol, and I would either wear black or gray shoes with them.
So, yeah, you could really wear any color shoes, but if he’s super conservative I would go with either black or gray, either would look fine.

I voted black, anything else may look flashy and you want to stay neutral for the interview..

You need a classic, closed-toe black pump. In my opinion, it should be at least two inches and pointed. I am not a fan of chunky heels with suits!
