Just wondering how far along you were (or are planning to be) when starting to shop for some of the big baby items such as crib etc? I’ve just gone 17 weeks and theres a special on a couple of items I want but wondering if I should hold off purchasing for a little while longer? I think in a way it will make the baby seem more ‘real’ but I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself!

@Mrs D: I am about 15 weeks so far the only big purchase was the car seat. I am currently doing the nursery though which is a pretty big step. We are going to hold off on the crib until after the baby shower.

With my first, I bought all our furniture at around 24 weeks and just a few items of clothing. We waited for our baby shower’s to then buy the rest of what we needed (4 weeks before).
This time around, we waited until 20 weeks to find out the gender and then bought everything at once. Even though it’s been sitting around forever 🙂
ETA: we did buy the travel system back when I was 12 weeks with my first

I am 32 weeks and at 28 weeks Father-In-Law bought the crib and this week My Mom got the changing table. However, I had losses, and was really afraid of jinxing myself.

As soon as I get done with all thse April & May weddings I am going to devote my weekends to the nursery…So, I’ll be about 22 weeks when I go out and buy the crib, dresser, bedspread & curtains. I figure…why wait?

My Darling Husband and I are going to order our crib and other nursery furniture next week (I’m 27 weeks). We would have done it way sooner, but we’re moving tomorrow and didn’t want to haul anything else!
BUT we have bought all the clothes, moses basket, bathtub, and other stuff weeks ago:D

I am 20 weeks and my first shower is in 6 weeks, we will be ordering the crib then and buying the travel system if we do not get them for our shower. I have a shower 5 weeks before my due date as well but I can not wait that long to buy a crib and travel system. So I will be about 27-32 weeks when we buy our bigger items.

Thanks everyone! Your replies made me feel heaps better – even to the point where Fiance went and made our first baby related purchase – a carseat! And I’m pretty sure the plan is to go back later this week when Fiance has a day off to purchase a crib, so this baby is definitely seeming real now and things are starting to seem a bit scary knowing that in a few short months we’ll have our own little person to look after!
