When my Fiance and I were first engaged, he was so excited to go dress shopping with me, but then I let him know about the tradition that brides shop without their Fiance, and that the Fiance only gets to see her on the wedding day.  We decided at first to be traditional, but it wasn’t making us happy.  I wasn’t having fun shopping, and I felt like I was leaving him out by not being able to share this part of my experience with him.  We decided that the tradition wasn’t meant for us, especially because we always did all of our shopping together!  We started dress shopping together, and immediately we were having fun!  After we found a dress that I liked, my family visited, so I did get the experience of shopping with them as well.  Ultimately, this set up worked really well for us, and we had a great time!  Do what works for you!  If you love traditions, stick to the ones that make you happy.  If the traditions aren’t working for you, think about what is important to you, and how that can be reflected in little decisions such as who dress shops with you.  Ultiamtely, for us, the joy is living life together during all of those little moments, and neither of us cared about this big build up of what will I look like when he first sees me on the wedding day.

rubilove :  I’ve done it! It was GREAT! I didn’t end up picking the dress that we saw together but I got an idea of what he liked and went from there. But also, I never tried on the dresses I bought prior to purchasing. So I’m sure I’m out of the ordinary.

My husband went shopping with me and helped me pick out the dress. We also got ready together.

rubilove :  when I went dress shopping I went with my mum, my sister and my then fiance now husband. He is my best friend and I so wanted him to be involved. He was thrilled when I asked him to come! It was a really special day. I didn’t tell him which one I was going to buy, so it was still a bit of a surprise on the day.

Yes! His was the only opinion I really considered a “dealbreaker” so that’s who I wanted to shop with-

He also has a really good eye for design, understands my style, and knows what looks good on me, so I really valued his input in general. He always helps me out of my indecisiveness in the best ways as well, which I certainly needed ๐Ÿ™‚

My husband went shpping with me after the first 3 trips failed with family, bridesmaids, etc. Too many opinions.

I found the dress, and was hesitant to show him, but was excited that the search was over so I came out and modeled it anyways. He asked if I loved it, and he could tell that I did. Told me that I looked beautiful and will look even more stunning on that day. I was worried I’d ruin the surprise but he said that to him it was just a dress, there was a liklihood he won’t remember the details, and that he was happy just to see the look on my face.

I don;t believe in superstitions. We spent the night before our wedding practicing our first funny dance and set up some details at the venue early in the morning before we went off and got ready. We did first look pictures to capture some sweet moments, but being a team on our wedding mae the whole thing about the marriage and not the “big day.”
