thanks everyone for your suggestions…… didn’t mean to take over this post! there is another dress i love but i think it would have the dreaded “swallowed me up” effect that us petite ladies are trying to avoid (very full fishtail bottom with lots of detail). i’ll post a new thread when i talk to the seamstress saying what her verdict was on it……

Hi there, I am 5 1 and was told not to go for large dresses as they would swallow you up! My dress is very simple but am getting a few adjustments like sweetheart neck and some sparkle added to the hip and the bust.
My fiance will be wearing a kilt so the petticoat edge will tie in with that!
what do you think?? 😮

i’m 5’1″ and my dress was perfect for my petite frame! i rocked 4″ heels to help lengthen the gown

I’m barely 5’1″, and I’m going with Maggie Sottero “Demi”. Never thought I’d go fit-and-flare (or mummy as I call it) but I think it suits my short chubby frame. I was suprised. The pillowed hem is sort of hard to alter significanlty so they’re ordering petite length= minus 3 inches. Probably going to wear 3-4″ heels depeding on the shoe’s comfort because my FH is 5’11” Those pics have to look good, you know!

I’m 5’4″, and here’s my dress at my first fitting last week
Post # 73
I am 5’3″ AND a street size 14…so that puts me in plus size category. I had to worry about height (even though I LOVE high heels – will wear 4″ heels) and what fit my pear shape. I found a beautiful a-line. I hthnk the key for me was to find a dress with a plain hemline (easy alterations) and the embellishments at the top of the dress.
Sorry, I don’t have a pic.

I’m 5’2″ and wore a ballgown!
I’m 5’2 and always wanted something simple and delicate, but found myself not looking bridal enough so I had to go with a different style.

I’m 5’2″ and thought 100% that would wind up in a trumpet/mermaid dress. But I found that those dresses look absolutely fabulous on curvy girls, not boxy shaped like me. I found myself drawn to the higher waisted ball gowns, similar to a 1950’s style (remind me of Grace Kelly) and that exactly what i wound up with! I had my sights sets on an Allure dress but low and behold I went to David’s Bridal and found my dream dress there! There is only one day that I can sparkle this this and get away with this dress. 🙂
