I’m 5’0 ft and feel in love with the mermaid style. it was the only style that felt didn’t make me look shorter. I tried ballgowns and felt swallowed in them. I am quite petite also so I had a hard time dress shopping because every gown was so big on me I couldn’t picture what it would look like altered.
Go to a bridal shop like David’s bridal just to try on different styles to see what you like first before seriously shopping!

I tried both trumpet and ballgown, and even bought trumpet first, but then changed my mind and went with ballgown. It made me feel like a bride 😀 Opinions on the bee were 50/50, so I think it’s very individual, not only height plays an important role, but also body type and personality.
I am 5’2″ for the reference, and will be wearing 4″ heels because my husband is tall.

I’m 5’1″ and am going with a fitted sheath style. I also loved more Grecian-style dresses with a nipped waist and drapey skirt. I’m very small-boned and I felt like dresses with more fabric ate me up — and hid the fact that I actually DO have curves. Looking back at pictures of dresses I tried on, I objectively think the A-line ballgowns I tried on looked nice, but they made me *feel* like a giant cupcake.
By the way, not sure if you follow Extra Petite, but I loved her guide to dresses:

You all look so beautiful!!
I am not sure of my height 🤦🏼♀️ Its somewhere between 5’2’’ and 5’4’’ for the ceremony and picutures I wore like 2.5” heels and then I change into some sneakers with a litttle bit of a wedge but in both shoes you can see how tall my Darling Husband looks next to me!
I love the last picture I feel like it looks like the Beauty and the Beast (minus the beast) dancing when Belle was wearing the yellow dress (minus the yellow dress) 😂🤦🏼♀️

dookietookie : I’m 5’3” 1/2 and I’m going to wear 2 1/2 inch heels. I don’t have any pictures yet because my wedding is in May but I love my bridal shoes 🙂

I’m 5’1 and pretty petite I feel like the long train, off shoulder sleeves and thebway the lace gradually fades off the bodice made me feel longer and taller than other dresses!
this is at my alterations appt so it’s pinned weird where they are hemming it

I’m 5 foot and my husband is 6’3 so a decent height difference. ☺ I wore shoes with pretty big heels, I was a bit worried about how I’d cope since I only wear flats usually, but they were totally fine ☺ I got married at 21 and look young anyway (I was mistaken for a child at a bridal expo…) so I really didn’t want to look like a child at my wedding!
My dress was A line which I think made my legs look longer (helped by the heels…) and was the petite version. After seeing and trying on the sample gowns it looked tiny in comparison 😛 I’d definitely recommend trying on all different types of dress to see what suits you, it can be surprising what ends up looking good! I’m sure you’ll find something you love 😄
Sorry if the pictures are huge!

evilqueenkarly : your cape is perfect! Love it!
lolly93 : love that pic by the car with your veil blowing:-)
Love seeing all of your dresses, I’m short too, and love ballgowns and hate heels. The curse of it all.

A good friend of mine is 5′ 0.5″ and bought a pre-owned Jenny Packham gown that was gorgeous. She found that the poofier dresses made her look stubby and that the long flowy dresses suited her better. She also looks like she’s 16 so she felt more elegant wearing the beaded gown rather than a ballgown or mermaid style dress.

dookietookie : 4’11 bee here. I chose a fit and flair dress as my athletic frame couldn’t handle sheath and ball gowns swallowed me up:
I wore 3.5” wedges and Darling Husband is only 5’7” so we didn’t have a huge height difference. I’d make sure to ask your photog if he/she has any tricks for making short people look taller… here’s an example of one where we look SHRIMPY

I’m 4’8.5 inches tall and my husband is 6’1. I knew that ball gowns would swallow me whole, So i opted for a mermaid to escentuate my curves. Keep in mind that these dresses are tailored made to fit your measurements. I think I suffer from short people syndrome, my heels for the day were def over 6inches.
And my FAVORRITEEE picture (because for once i can see over his head)

I’m 5’2″ and wore a sheath with 2 inch heels that I kicked off as soon as we entered the reception tent. My husband is 5’9″ but he looks super tall in the pictures from our first dance!
