My cousin wore a tea length dress to her New Year’s Eve wedding in a Catholic Church. I think as long as the neckline isn’t plunging and the dress isnt painted on you’re fine not wearing floor length.

@shrubfish09:  My friend wore a tea length dress for her catholic wedding ceremony in a church so I think it is fine! She of course had her shoulders covered though but not sure if that makes much of a difference anymore in churches

I think below the knees is okay, but not shorter.

@shrubfish09:  I think your dress description sounds lovely. I was told fingertip length dresses and longer are perfect, but appropriateness is relative for dresses and skirts. Use your own judgement to see if what you wear is reflecting respect for the couple’s place of worship. I think as long as it is respectful, not slutty, it’s totally fine!

I would stick to formal cocktail wear…. no shorter than two inches above the knee, and nothing too tight or revealing. Cover your shoulders just in case it’s a very traditional church. Also, consider wearing black tights as a cover up.

For your wedding dress as a bride? I wouldn’t go shorter than tea length. Remember- you have a lot of kneeling, sitting and standing to do!  Also, our church has a school attached, and I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t be appropriate to wear a dress with a skirt shorter than the students are allowed to wear 😉  Good luck!

@shrubfish09:  I live in Rome so even though I’m not a catholic I often attend catholic weddings/ordinations (I have a few friends who are/will become priests) and I usually ask myself if I could enter saint Peters with what I am wearing. If yes then I’m sure I’m ok. Anyway definetly anything that shows your knees is innapropriate.

Like this lenght is not ok:

This should be ok:

I agree with what PPs said. Knee length: rock on. But don’t go much shorter than an inch or (MAYBE) two above the knee.
