I was hoping you might be able to share your experiences for reassurance! At my 20 week scan it was noted that all measurements were around 50th percentile apart from femur length which was around 5th percentile. I didn’t think anything of it because it wasn’t brought up as an issue. At my 28 week growth scan, the same thing was noted. I asked the sonographer who said because baby was continuing on the same growth curve (5th percentile for femur, 50th for everything else) that it was fine. Of course I went home and googled, and it’s all about genetic abnormalities!
Did anyone have this with a positive outcome? I’m sure it’s all fine, and I’ll ask at my next appointment, but as my husband and I are both very tall, and our toddler was always off the charts tall, it strikes me as odd that we would have a small baby!

I recall my son having a short femur and small belly. He was and still is a small kid, but perfectly healthy at six years old! Maybe discuss it more with your doctor and let them know it’s concerning you, so you can get more in depth answers. Sometimes they brush us off when it’s not concerning to them and forget their patient doesn’t necessarily feel the same way!

We had a short femur at ours. I just looked back and it was 7th percentile at 30 weeks but we were 36th percentile at 20 weeks so not entirely comparable to your situation as earleir measurements are more accurate. I was also nervous and did not a ton of researching. Both my doctor and the MFM at the hospital were not concerned. They pointed out at the percentiles are not gender or ethncity adjusted. If you or your husband are short (I am) that also may impact the percentiles.
To aid my paranoia, my OB let me do another scan at 36 weeks. Our LO was 18th percentile then for femurs, although who knows if she actually grew or the earlier measurements were inaccurate. At birth, she was average length.
I’m sorry you are dealing with this! I found stuff like this super stressful during pregnancy but as most people will tell you, if your OB is not concerned that everything should be fine.

Thanks for your replies 😊 I find this stuff so stressful too! I remember obsessively googling things with my first pregnancy that turned out to be nothing so I’m hoping it’s the same here! I have a midwife and an OB appointment next week so I’ll bring it up at both and hopefully get some answers!

Same thing happened to us! I forget what the percentile was, but they had us do a follow up with MFM and got the same result. The head of MFM came in, took one look at my husband, and went, “Oh well that explains it.” He is clearly not super tall! Then my son was born, he’s perfectly fine, and even on the tall side. Funnily enough, never had an issue with any scans for my second son. Definitely have a chat with your OB, but I wouldn’t worry unless someone tells you to. 🙂

thanks 😊 Good to hear your son was fine ❤️ No one has mentioned it as something to worry about so I’m hoping it’s because it’s fine and not because they’re being negligent! It’s only when I googled that I got worried (like so many things!!). It would make sense if we were short, or even average height, but I’m 6ft, my husband is 6ft5, and our toddler is very tall too! I’m sure little one is just growing in his own way though! I looked back at my first sons notes and his femur was on the 30th percentile but when he was born he was off the charts tall lol.

I don’t know about femur length, but just wanted to say the baby’s height could be different from you guys. My husband and I are both average at best (I’m 5’4″ and he’s like 5’8″- average for a Hispanic male) but our daughter was born long and is currently 98th percentile for height! She is growing like a weed. I was very surprised since like I said, we are not tall by any means. But my dad is 6’4″, his dad is like 6′, and my siblings are both pretty tall. Both our moms are shorter than me, about 5’2″ each. So I guess we both got our mom’s heights but then carried through some taller genes? It is weird lol. Is everyone in your immediate family also tall?

That’s interesting. Everyone in mine and my husband’s immediate family is tall apart from my mum, so maybe baby will take after his grandma!
