(Closed) Short LP…is it too soon?

@mrsjroo:  Short LPs can be concerning, but they are also treatable. Before you freak out though, I have to say a few things.

1. You just came off BCP, so your cycles are bound to be a little wonky for awhile.

2. You’ve only been monitoring your cycles for two months, which isn’t really enough time to make any determinations about your cycle history.

3. Although OPKs tell you you might be ovulating soon, they do not tell you IF or WHEN you actually ovulated. You might not be ovulating yet (due to just coming off BCP), so your LP might not be short at all. I highly recommend temping for a few months before you become concerned, but you’ve already ordered TCOYF, so you’re on the right track!

All that being said, you should always bring up any concerns you might have with your doctor. S/he might have some great info and recommendations for you. It never hurts to ask. Good luck with your TTC journey.

@mrsjroo:  I think in some way we all are guilty of this so called “obsession” and of course everytime we get AF it gets worse and worse, cause you start thinking something has to be wrong with you…i’ve been there and i think im still there.  The fact that you are going to your md is great.  Getting an advise from an expert is the best you can do in this crazy process.  Try not to stress too much until you speak to your md and you will get there..hopefully sooner rather than later you’ll get your bfp…FX for your too πŸ™‚

I could have written your story. I stopped bcps same time, but my body seems to think I still need to have a period at the same time length as on the pill, like total disregard for when I ovulate, just “oh hey, 27 days, time to bleed!” It is frustrating, no doubt, and I would like to see a doctor as well, but I have a feeling they will suggest to give it more time. Interested to see what others have to say, bc my next fear is a CP or early miscarriage if I would get a bfp bc of my body’s agenda to just bleed after the alotted # of days…Argh.I am trying to tell myself to wait at least 6 months, but it already feels like it’s been forever with zero improvement (in fact I think evry month it’s gotten worse..27 day cycle-O on CD17, 27 day cycle-O on CD18, and this month is looking like 28 day cycle with O on CD20).

Ohh even better, I actually got full-blown AF today, so I have now had 3 27-day cycles with later O and shorter LPs in all of them. I wonder how long it will take my body to realize I’m not on the stupid pill anymore. πŸ™ I assumed my cycles would get better, not worse. Ugh. Just not a good day.

@cowgirlace:  Not to thread jack but are you temping? How are you detecting ovulation?

My first 3 cycles off BCP I had 8-10 day LP and I was worried like you…the next cycle was 13 day LP and the one after I got my BFP.  I would chalk it up to your body still adjusting, and not worry unless it is longer (maybe over 6 months?) and your LP is still short.

@cowgirlace:  I only have a 10 day LP. Our next step is a HSG, but my doctor wasn’t too concerned with only a 10 day LP. She said as soon as I get my BFP to come in and based on my blood tests she might start me on Progestrone. Now saying that, I may find out something different once I get the referral and see the specialist for the HSG.

I wouldn’t necessarily assume you have a short LP just yet. After I stopped the pill and began charting (just temping, no trackiing CM or OPKs), I suspected my LP was on the shorter side and I started taking a B complex at the recommendation of some of the lovely bees here. I conceived the following month, so I have no idea if the vitamins helped of if there wasn’t really a problem with my LP to begin with.

I took Vitamin B complex this month and it either didn’t help or made my LP even shorter.  I also drank Fertili Tea before O, but not at all after, so thinking that plus the stress of traveling for Christmas made me O even later than normal, but that’s not really an excuse for my even shorter luteal phase, because the luteal phase is what is supposed to be consistent every month, regardless of when you Ovulate.  I just really hope my body gets out of this “need to bleed” every 27 days without even caring about when I ovulated.  Just doesn’t seem normal to me.  I hope I just ovulate earlier this month or something.  The hardest part is waiting another MONTH to find out if it is getting better, and it is not helping that mine have gotten consistently worse since stopping BCPs, not consistently better.  I would be feeling a lot better if my three cycles were in reverse, but it is scaring me that I have seen a decline instead of improvement.  A month is a long time of getting your hopes up, just to get them crushed again.

I am not doing a dang thing this month besides taking my stupid temperature every morning and having sex when the mood freaking strikes, no supplements, no OPKs, no obsessively checking my CM and CP, trying to time sex just right. Nope, I am over this trying to make a baby when my body isn’t even normal yet.  Just glad I quit taking BCPs when I did, because I seriously assumed I would get pregnant right away (not completely irrational, IMO, because so many people do).  πŸ™

Off to go search for medical info on this stupid predicament I’m in.  OP- I will let you know if I find anything.
