I am getting married next year at an old farm house in Vermont. It will be a late afternoon (4:30 ish) ceremony. I am going for a formal look but laid back feel….but I am stuck. I can’t decide if the bridesmaids should wear knee length dresses or floor length?
I have already asked them what they prefer and the only person that actually seems to really have an opinion is my Maid/Matron of Honor (my sister….so of course she doesn’t mind sharing her opinion!), and she likes the long dresses.
I am going to let the girls pick out their own dresses (just keep length, color family and material similar)….. But I am ready to flip a coin to decide the length!!! (forgot to say that I love both the long and short look.)

What about tea length? With the Vermont venue (which sounds awesome) I think that tea length could be a good, more retro/vintage vibe that will look super cute with the surroundings! Something like this:

My Maid/Matron of Honor chose long and all the rest of the girls got short.. I thought it looked adorable.. maybe do both?!

Are you getting married/having some of your reception outside? If so, I would say your other girls could go short and your Maid/Matron of Honor could go long. Since she’s the Maid/Matron of Honor, she can stand out 🙂 I also like a PP’s suggestion of tea length. I looooove tea length and think it looks so classy on pretty much everyone. You could definitely do tea length as a laid back formal look 🙂

I think it’s easier to find a nice, quality knee-length dress than it is to find an equally nice long one on the same price range. Not saying there aren’t beautiful long dresses out there; I just think you have to be pickier about it.

@sunnyday278 Yes, the reception will be under a tent. I have thought of the Maid/Matron of Honor wearing long and the rest of the girls wearing short….might be what I end up doing.
@MsMindle I am not a huge fan of tea length sadly….I have ABSOLUTELY no clue why! I do see the retro/vintage feel that you are talking about. Maybe I should try to get over my dislike of them!
@stillme That was also one of my concerns about long! (Even though I like the look)

@TopazWedding: I like this idea. This way the Maid/Matron of Honor can distinguish herself as well!
