My wedding will be at 3:30 pm with the cocktail hour starting around 5 pm. The ceremony will be in a catholic chapel and the reception in the oceanview ball room of a small resort. I have 2 Bridesmaid or Best Man and a Maid/Matron of Honor. The color of the dresses will be Navy blue.

I think short is lovely. Especially in the wonderful warm weather! But for the catholic church, maybe tea length or at least hitting at the knee is most appropriate.

It all depends on what you want to have. My colors are also Navy Blue for the BM’s dresses but I am going with long for one it flows better with my dress and two because the BM’s wanted long dresses.

I’m biased because I did short navy dresses in a church with a reception venue on the water. I thought my girls looked great, but I think either could work. Have your girls tried on both styles?

I think short is generally better unless you are having a super formal wedding. For one, your girls are more likely to wear it again. Second, you get to show off cute shoes!

I like short dresses personally because I think there is a much better chance the girls will wear them again but I think formality will dictate which is best. For a December wedding long dresses would be lovely too!

I agree that people are much more likely to be able to wear short dresses again, because there aren’t very many occasions to wear a long dress. I really like that first dress on the right in the top picture, I think it would be really cute in navy!

I have seen both short and long for afternoon/evening weddings, church/outdoor ceremony, so I really think it’s just a personal choice! It might also depend on how formal your wedding will be.
We’re going with long dresses because our wedding is more on the formal side. Plus, one of my BMs is very self-conscious and had hinted that she would be more comfortable in a long dress. 🙂

I think ask your BMs 🙂 One of my Bridesmaid or Best Man said she really doesn’t want a long dress as she’s afraid she won’t be as helpful on the day if she’s trying not to trip half the time. (her words)

If you really don’t care, ask your BM’s. I’m betting they will prefer short.

I also think it depends on the age, it seems that the older the Bridesmaid or Best Man they would rather have a long dress. The dresses I chose the girls if so chose to afterwards could make the dress shorter.

i say go long! your wedding is in december and its a catholic mass (which tend to be a bit more formal) 🙂 but im bias because i did long in the winter months in a catholic church 🙂
but maybe you could do Maid/Matron of Honor in long and the BMs in short – im really diggin the picture you posted

i dislike long bridesmaid dresses. more expensive, doesn’t look as fun and pretty, and less chance of being reworn (IMHO).
