Okay, so I’m officially the most fickle bride in the world. I’ve considered having a destination wedding in Hawaii, Niagara Falls (CA) or doing an extravagent local wedding. And, I’ve announced each idea because I was so excited. Only to change my mind.. yet again.
Well, I’ve really made up my mind this time and I’m having a very intimate (parents only) wedding in Niagara Falls. I’m absolutely in love with the setting, and the exorbitent family and bridal party induced drama reaffirmed my decision. And, we’re making the deposit to a location called Niagara Fallsview Weddings next week.
Anywho, back to why I’m posting. Well, I need a short wedding dress. Tea-length or cocktail length would be nice. The reason I’m searching for a shorter dress is because the ceremony is less than an hour and we are then going to a public restaurant for our wedding dinner with our parents. I hate being the center of attention and walking into a restaurant with a foofy gown will command all eyes on me.
The problem is that all the short wedding dresses I find look like slutty prom dresses. Not good.
I was considering this dress from DB and wearing it as-is for the ceremony and simply bustling/pinning up the slight sltrain for the restaurant.
I’m also plus sized too and I constantly joke that I have the arms of the Michellin man (you know, the tire monster?). So, I’d prefer a shorter wedding dress with 3/4 sleeves that looks like a wedding dress yet won’t make me the center of attention at the restaurant.
Someone help please… I’m so lost. Does a gown that matches my wish-list even exist? Budget is less than $700 btw.

I wore a short dress for my chapel wedding. It was a Bridesmaid dress in white (only $98), so try looking for those as well. Or try this site, they have cute looking vintage short dresses: http://www.dollycouture.com/
Here’s my dress (Mori Lee Bridesmaid or Best Man dress)

I agree with finding a Bridesmaid or Best Man dress in white or ivory. Although I’ve seen quite a few short dresses lately that I’m loving!

I am jumping on the Bridesmaid or Best Man dress train. They are less expensive, come in all kinds of lengths, and are less likely to make a scene in a public place.
However, knowing your desire for sleeves, what about something like this? http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Short-strapless-sheath-dress-9N9781_Bridal-Gowns-Shop-By-Size-Plus-Sizes
One more word of advice on the issue of sleeves… I’m a plus-sized gal myself. And yes, I have those things that flap under my arms like sad grandma wings. But usually a strapless or straps only dress is more flattering than attempting to put sleeves on. I know you’re self-conscious about them and I totally get it. (Please see self-deprecating grandma comment above.) However, sleeves the wrong length can emphasize that which you wish to conceal. While the abscence of sleeves really makes it an area where there’s no reason to look because there’s nothing going on.
Just a thought. You should do what you’re most comfortable with in the end. If you’re not comfortable, you’ll be fretting with that dress all day and it won’t be fun.

Try checking vintage/consignment shops and websites–dresses from the 50s typically have the sleeves you’re looking for but if they’re not short, they can always be cropped to the proper length.
