So, I went dress shopping today, and honestly cried in the dressing room, all the dresses made me feel like I was just being swallowed up by material and none of them were flattering at all, on top of that, the associate helping me was not that nice. I’m planning on going to a different botique with my mom sometime this week but I’m feeling discouraged and more like a little girl playing dress up than a bride. :/
I’m 5’1 and honestly just want to wear a garbage bag at this point! So please, show me your dresses!
(I know alterations and things will need to be done, but I’m already overwhelmed with planning the wedding, isn’t dress shopping supposed to be the best part?!)

I’m 5’2. This is my dress. I don’t remember if I was on the pedastol or my tip toes in this pic.

5’2″ bride here. I’m still looking, but you !DEFINITELY! need to go to another boutique or at the very least try a different consultant. I will say though, when I tried on some poofy ball gowns, it did feel like I was being swallowed by fabric, so I’ve opted for a more fitted shape to elongate my body.
Here are some finds, along with the ball gown that nearly swallowed me whole:

I’m 5’1 1/2. Try on a bunch of different styles and you’ll figure out what works best for you. Good luck!

I’m 4’11” and this is me, standing on the floor, in socks only!! I’m 95 pounds and super petite, so I felt down the first few times I tried on dresses. This is just a sample dress they pinned back to fit me better. Ultimately, I didn’t purchase this specific dress but I did purchase a custom gown which will turn out extremely similarly. I think going with a fitted top and a bit of a ballgown-y bottom can work really well for petite girls. I expected ballgowns to engulf me but this one surprisingly worked very well with my frame. It’s Essence of Austrailia D1702.
Sorry to all who have already seen this pic of me, but I wanted to post it so I could help a fellow shorty. The struggle is real! Just linking it this time for OP: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/b0/32/ba/b032badec73937212b5cb440c2ea4094.jpg

I don’t have a picture of me in my dress on my iPad, but I am 5’1 and I bought the Maggie Sottero Primrose. Some dresses made me look like I was standing in a cake, and it took a few tries for me to find one that looked proper. Keep trying! Don’t get discouraged. Think of ALL the wedding dresses out there, there have to be lots that will look amazing on you!

Im 5’1 and wearing flip flops in the photo. I ordered my dress online and had it custom fitted to avoid the crazy alterations on length. I love the fit and flare look so my dress doesn’t feel like its swallowing me!!!

I’m sorry you had a bad experience! Don’t get discouraged! I’m 5’1 and was worried that nothing would fit me right, but I fell in love with the Alfred Angelo 887.
Maybe try on dresses you think you wouldn’t like. I never considered a mermaid (I wanted an ethereal, flowy dress), but fell in love with how the mermaid silhouette fit my body.

I’m 5’2 and I ordered my dress with my custom measurements. Casablanca Bridal offers free hallow-to-hem. It would have been a pain in the but to alter the length down to my height.

I’m 5’1 and wore a ballgown. It was ordered hem to hollow (correct terminology?) to my measurements. I didn’t have to have any alterations! Casablanca 1992<br />

Well this is not to the point at all really (except that the OP should not dismiss ballgowns just yet! ) , but I just wanted to say how wonderful you and the girls looked.

awww don’t be discouraged! I am 4’11” and I had multiple bad dressing room visits feeling like I was completely swallowed in fabric. I ended up wearing the maggie sottero bronwyn and it was gorgeous. It was NOT gorgeous though when I first put it on. Even clipped, it was way to long and 2 sizes too big. But alterations are amazing and it was like a totally different dress when it was sized too me! Being short you are going to have a lot of alterations because you will likely want to shorten the torso area and bring that in, as well as hem. So make sure to include the upper end of alterations for your budget. Good luck!

Look at designers who offer custom measurements on length not every designer does. Some who do are: Casablanca, Wtoo, Davinci, and Essense of Australia. Don’t be discouraged!

I’m 5’3″. Here is my dress, I’m going to make it a little more of a trumpet fit with alterations once it comes in. Don’t get discouraged, you just have to find the right fit for you!
