Don’t give up, but don’t put up with poor service either. Alterations will make your dress look and feel great. I’m 5’3″ and petite and felt very overwhelmed in ball gowns. I found that the fit and flair made me feel more womanly and not swallowed in fabric. I also thought that since I’m small chested I would have to wear a dress with straps, but it turns out with small shoulders straps just don’t look good, so strapless would be a good way to go. I also really liked the look of dropped waist because it made my body look longer than an empire waist. Good luck finding your dream dress. Here’s me in mine before alterations, obviously it’s way too long, but they did a great job making it fit to me and adding a cute bustle for the reception.

kmdunford:  I already have my dress but I like seeing other petites’ wedding dresses. Just wanted to say that I LOVE yours!! Totally my style and similar to my own dress, in fact. I also wanted to do ballgown and opted for one that has a natural or slightly empire waist, precisely because it won’t cut you off. Much more flattering if you’re 5’3 or under. πŸ™‚

kma5660:  Hey, sorry if this is totally weird but your husband has a similar build to my fiance and I love his suit. Where did he get it/what brand is it? Thanks a million, PM me if you want πŸ™‚

swonderful:  I want to know this too!  Where did that suit come from.  My fellow is this build also, very very slim and tall. That suit looks great.

Hi Bees, his suit was customized from Martin Greenfield Clothiers in Brooklyn. However, he has also purchased suits from Indochino that look incredibly nice as well and are a bit more affordable. He is too thin and tall for most suits so we also get them made for him. I would say the closest retail that almost reaches his size would be JCrew, but it still doesn’t look as on point as a customized suit. Hope that helps. Man, he gets more compliments than I do on our wedding clothing πŸ˜‰

kma5660:  Thank you! And by the way you looked freaking STUNNING too!!! I just know so much less about men’s suits that when I saw a guy with my fella’s body type in a nice fitting suit I figured I’d jump on it. Luckily we live in nyc so your reference is perfect for me. Thank you!

swonderful:  Thank you so much! No problem at all, I am glad to be of help. Now that I think about it Indochino has a tailor that comes into the city every couple of months to do fittings and to show samples of cloth. I would definitely check into it. I learned more than I needed to about suits for this process. haha. There are really some affordable options for customized suits in the city and trust me you can tell a difference in the fit from a store bought one. PM me if you guys need any help πŸ™‚

I just now realized that Indochino has a showroom in NYC: I would check it out. My husband has a couple of suits from them and I cannot tell the difference between these and the more pricey ones. I think they come in at around $350-$600 for 3 piece suits. Not too bad considering its made specifically for him and will last many years πŸ™‚

I’m 5’3″ and got my dress at David’s Bridal. Also went to two other shops. DB by far had the best dresses to try on for my size. I won’t even need to get alterations done, just need to find the right heel height, which will be less than 2 inches.
