I thnk there are SO MANY things that could affect his weight. Is he more active? Learning to run instead of toddle around? Is he hitting a growth spurt? Sleeping less? There are so so so many different possibilities that AREN’T a big deal. The best thing to do is to do more tests to see if you can find an answer. But I would try not to worry too much until you have more answers. I know, that is so much easier said than done. I hope it all works out!

I have no words for you, because I haven’t been in this situation, but just wanted to say that I would wait for the tests before panicking. I know that’s tough, but worrying until you know something won’t help. (((hugs)))

@bride21: Sounds like you have a very good doctor who is taking precautions to look into things.  I feel like 1 pound is such a small amount, but I dont’ know anything about the weight of 18 month olds.  When I pee I lose one pound.  When I wear a different outfit I change by one pound.  I say try to relax and give the extra cup of milk and eggs and wait to see if the doctor finds any test results to be concerned about.  It’s too bad about the choice of words that your doc used.  🙁

My son is also underweight. He does have eating issues though and is extremely hyper active but with that said I don’t think 1 pound is a huge deal was he weighed with clothes on? I wouldn’t worry to much your doctor is probably just playing it safe. I always freak out when I think something is wrong with my 3 year old he is ALWAYS into something so I completely understand your worry. He drank perfume last week which sent me into panic omg he’s going to die mode not to worry perfume is not toxic but can cause them to become drunk but you better believe we were in the ER to make sure he wasn’t dying.

I think it is good for your Dr. to be cautious.  1 pound is not a lot if you weigh 130lbs, but if you weigh 20 lbs its 5 % of your weight.  Better to be safe than sorry- try not to worry too much!
