I’m about 5 and a half weeks along now and have had little to no symptoms so far. Today i woke up with cramping, nausea, and diarrhea which didn’t bug me too much. I figured it was morning sickness or something so I drank a glass of water and ate a banana. It’s now 3PM and I’m still nausated, with diarrhea, and now I’ve vomited 3 times. It feels almost like food poisoning, but I don’t think I ate anything that could cause it.

Does morning sickness usually last all day lke this with these symptoms? What do I do? Should I go to the ER or clinic for fear that I have listeria or something that could harm the baby?

Morning sickness is probably the most wrongly named sickness in the world. It can and often does last all day. Keep up your fluids at the very least and take your prenatal. Eat bland food or anything you can stomach for now.
Since you are only 5 weeks, I am under the assumption that you have not had your first appointment, but if this persists and you can’t keep water or anything else down, call your doctor immediately. You might need a prescription to help you eat without throwing it back up.
Good luck! I hope it starts to calm down for you. Morning sickness can be brutal!

I cant answer your question (my apologies) but I can tell you that although you may be uncomfortable… make sure to keep hydrated through all this.

Pappy8: Katie-Didnt: cocopops: Thanks for your replies ladies. I’m drinking as much water as i can, but i seem to be throwing up as soon as I think I’ve gotten over it. I’m just laying there as comfortable as someone who’s sick can be and then I get really hot and have to speed walk to the bathroom. Is it usually an all day thing though? Because if I’m like this on Tuesday I can’t go to work!

Cramping and nausea are normal, diarrhea is not normal. keep hydrated. Perhaps you have a stomach bug? You are far enough along to have morning sickness. Morning sickness should have been named ‘all the time sickness’ :). Goodluck.

lavishlv: I’ve heard that candies help a lot. I might have to get the husband to stop off at the Bulk Barn.

That doesn’t sound like morning sickeness to me – it sounds like a norovirus. Get plenty of hydration – even small sips are better than none. Preferably something clear and with salt or sugars in it (chicken broth, gatorade, popcicles).
Here’s a fact sheet for info: http://www.phac-aspc.gc.ca/fs-sa/fs-fi/norovirus-eng.php
Feel better soon 🙁

Morning sickness does not include diarrhea. Sounds like you have a little bug. Even though we generally let these things run their course, since you are pregnant, it may be best to hop over to Patient First or see a doc.

I had all-day naseua / vomiting and diarrhea the first few weeks of pregnancy. the diarrhea wnet away, but the throwing up did not unfortunately! If you can hold any fluids down for more than 12 hours, call your doctor!

I’m sorry you are so poorly. I don’t know if this will work but it’s worth a shot. Whenever I’m having “digestion” issues drinking a shot glass size amount of water every 30 minutes helps stay hydrated without upsetting my stomach. Drinking large amounts of water will only irritate your stomach more. I hope you feel better quickly.

Sadly I started having what you are describing at 5 weeks. It continued to get worse to the point were I couldn’t keep water down for days. 3 times I have ended up in hospital for anti sickness meds and fluids. I have been diagnosed as hyperemisis during pregnancy and iv had to leave my job because of it. So yeah it could be bad “morning sickness” as I’m 16 weeks and it’s still bad. Lasting all day even though om on meds to stop it. That being said I never had diarrhoea I don’t think until it was really bad sp it might just be a virus or food poisoning. Good luck
