Last year when my fiance and I were originally planning an elopement in Costa Rica I contacted an owner of a vacation home to see if he would allow me to get married there and make my own wedding package (they offer wedding packages). He said yes to both and quoted me a small fee.
We are looking at getting married on either August 18 or August 19 this year and I am still waiting on the photographer to let me know which date is better for him.
I’m starting to stress because the vacation home has already been booked as late as August 4, PLUS I don’t know if the owner will still offer me the same thing he did last year.
Should I send the owner of the vacation home an email asking if we can still use the home for the ceremony and just tell him we are looking to get married on August 18 or 19? Or should I just wait it out until I hear back from the photographer so I can be taken more seriously by the owner?

Confirm what dates are available at the venue first. You really can’t nail down a photographer when you can’t tell them what date you need them for.
You can still email the photographer and ask them to confirm that they are still available for those dates and let them know you will be finalizing a contract for one of those dates asap.

@julies1949: I know that the vacation home is available as of right now. But what I don’t know is if the home’s owner is still willing to let me have the ceremony there.
I know that the photographer is available for those dates but since I’m asking him to travel to our wedding I asked him to tell me what date would be most convenient for him. That’s what I’m waiting on right now!

If your photographer is still available for both dates I would definitely book your venue. You won’t be able to start setting up catering, rentals, travel needs until you have the venue.
I would, however, contact the photographer again to let him know you are making a decision.
