- Wedding: August 2013
Choosing between two photographers (one of whom I already signed a contract with eek). At the bottom areof the post links to their websites. If you don’t want to read this whole thing, I would at least be interested in which of the two you think has better quality photos. (I really am inexperienced in photography.) Thanks!
Here is the situation:
My fiance and I got engaged last August and are planning a wedding for this coming August (little ove 7 months away). We signed a photographer for our wedding pretty early in the game in September. This was mainly because I wanted to get engagement pictures taken before all of the leaves were off the trees. We ended up signing a pretty affordable photographer ($1150). He had recently done both my sister’s and my best friend’s wedding, and the cost was awesome since we are paying for everything ourselves.
I now feel that was fairly unwise in the decision making process. I didn’t really look into what I should be asking or keeping an eye out for before signing photographer. I also feel like I tried to ignore the fact that I wasn’t in love with his work–mostly because I didn’t think we could afford anything else.
As time passes I can’t get rid of this nagging feeling that when I see the photos from the big day I will be underwelmed possibly disappointed. I am planning everything myself and will not have a wedding planner the day of. I really want amazing photos of both the big moments and all off the little details that I have spent so much time on.
Recently, I was looking up photos of our venue and saw some that I thought were gorgeous. I didn’t even look up the photographer because I thought she would be way out of our price range. Then not long after I was looking through a local wedding planner guide and noticed that the caption under many of the photos I was drawn to had her name listed underneath. I went on her website and found out that she is more affordable than I thought ($250/hour) and loved 97% of the photos tha I saw. I never thought that she would be available on our date (I emailed her like 3 days ago.), but she still is. Now I am stuck, should I switch photographer, lose my deposit, and pay more or should I stick with the more affordable photographer, meet with him, show him photos I like, and hope that he pulls through on the big day? Below is my comparison list.
Deposit:$300 (would be lost if we switch)
Price includes two photographers
Contract says they will be there for the pre-ceremony, ceremony, and all of the reception)–Experience from my sister and friend’s wedding tells me that maybe they would be there two or so more hours during the getting ready phase and the last hour or so of the reception)–does more photos increase my chances of good photos?
Engagement photos–I feel like he edits most of the photos he takes because in some my fiance and I are in akward postions or making werid faces, etc. We liked probably a third to a half enough to print/share. Looking back at them, however, that weren’t any that were very original and I kind of feel they are overly edited with necessary effects/contrast added in. (My sister’s and friend’s full wedding albums were full with so so pictures.)
After looking at what you should look for in a photographer, I realize that he is kind of akward and we feel uncomfortable around him. He does however sit down with clients before the wedding to discuss photos to be taken.
$250/hr for 8 hours=$2000
One photographer (extra=$250)
Would only be there for the eight hours probably not as long as other photographer. (However, I am unsure if I really need many pictures after 9:30 of a drunk me. Experience says these won’t turn out well anyway. lol)
I love her style online. I have not seen a full wedding album, but will ask her to bring one when we meet and I will get references.
Overall, the outcome is similar. Possibly more photos with photographer #1. Photographer #2 stated on her website that she doesn’t give you every single photo. Both included DVDs with the edited images that I can print anywhere on my own.
Below our the two photographers websites. I think both are great. #2 might just fit my style better–much less formal.
Sorry this is so long! Please let me know what you think!
