How much is it normally? If you are getting at least 75% off, I’d go for it. It’s not NEW, so you just have to live with the imperfections.

I’d also like to know what the new price is. Because usually wedding dresses drop an awful lot in value and over £2K for a somewhat tired looking second hand frock seems excessive.

@Honeybunch:  Hmmmm. I would say 50% off might not be enough for the fraying edges. And I would suggest you go and try on the actual dress in the boutique and take a pic of yourself in the dress. Compare the pics of you in the preowned and in the boutique and see how it feels and look of them

@Honeybunch:  it is my understanding (from looking at other listings) that VWs do not depreciate much even if they’ve been worn. The second one looks much better than the first, but I’d definitely try to inspect in person. Also, I do believe its supposed to have a raw hem. My dress has some raw ruffles on the bodice and boy did my mother love to pick that apart.

I think the first one is a bit expensive given the condition, but I still think you should keep trying to find another preowned Gemma. Altering down two sizes shouldn’t be a problem. As for the colour – I do find that Vera’s ivory is definitely on the creamy/yellow side compared to other ivories.

Some background info on The Gemma:

Gemma retails at about £3950.

I’m not sure I’d suggest hiring it as that would be 1650 ! (The justification is that they only hire them 3 times and they have to get them dry cleaned too.)

In excellent condition some 2nd hand Gemma dresses go for 3500.

For 2nd hand bridal websites in the UK in general, you might find these useful ?

I bet this one would be half the price of Gemma: Sophia Tolli, Y21363 – Bluebell

@Honeybunch:  How about one of these? These are all Essense of Australia:
