My proposal was a total surprise and he had gotten me a solitaire. I appreciate it’s elegance but i find it a bit too simple. Where I live, solitaires are also super common, and I kind of wish my ring looked more unique.
I am thinking of changing to a halo setting (undecided between round halo or cushion). Also toying with the idea of rose gold, although I think it maybe too “trendy”. Also open to keeping my solitaire.
here is a picture of me wearing 3 rings:
1. My solitaire
2. A rose gold round halo
3. A white gold cushion halo
The centre stones of 2 and 3 are bigger than what I have, so do try your best to visualize it on 1 😀 do you think I should change the setting, and if so, which one?
p.s some ideas of my style: I like elegant and classic things with a twist. I like jewelry, and wear both elaborate and simple ones depending on my mood. I like to stand out a little but not too much.

I have a six prong solitaire that I hope to change to a double cushion halo soon, so my vote is for a cushion halo. I will have a rose gold and a white gold halo, so I am no help on the metal colour question… I do agree rose gold is probably very trendy, but so is a cushion halo. I don’t really see a problem with trendy if you love it.

your Fiance is ok with you changing the setting?
If so, maybe do the round stone with the cushion halo in white gold. it is classic and elegant (round stone, white gold) but has a little something “extra” (the cushion halo) keep in mind it will stand out more because of the extra diameter, not sure if it will be “too much” because everyone is different.
Im partial though because I have a cushion stone with a cushion halo. Lol
The advantage to a solitaire is that it really is the true classic look, it will never go out of style– so really really really only change the setting if it’s something you will love.
Also with the halo rings, you’ll have to get a curved band (often custom) if you want it to sit flush with your ring or have a gap. Think about if you’ll wear your ering all the time or will sometimes only wear your band. This is something I didn’t think about until after I got engaged.

What does your Fiance think? I personally prefer a solitaire for it’s timelessness and you can always get a more interesting wedding band. So- team solitaire.

hi thanks for your reply (: u will have both a white and rose gold halo? So it will be a mixed metal look? 😀 what’s your reason behind wanting to change your solitaire?

thanks for your reply! I would love a cushion stone., they are unique yet elegant!
From your understanding of halo settings do u think it is possible to set it such that a straight wedding band still sits flush against the engagement band?
I imagine that a solitaire ring is something one could wear all the time vs halo.. Do you wear yours all the time?

I think both halos are stunning. I can’t decide which one I like better. But I also think your fiance did a great job getting the ring you got. I might check out fancy wedding bands and leave it as is. I like the combo of a fancy/unique engagement ring with a simple band or a simple engagement ring with a fancy/unique band. Don’t worry about what’s trendy as long as it’s something you loved before the trend and will love when it’s over. I have a halo (around a purple sapphire)but I don’t care if ten years from now because they were around a long time before the latest wave of them and I always liked them.

I voted white gold cushion halo. I’m biased, because I have a round in a cushion halo. I really likes the combination of the two shapes, and it’s something a little different than what most people have. A lot of girls have rounds in cushion halos on WB, but I think I’ve only seen one other one in real life.
Here’s mine that I wear without a wedding band

Yes, it will be two tone 🙂 I want more finger coverage and I love halos. I have two rings actually, and the other is a solitaire but with side stones. I will likely set my solitaire with a moissanite of the same size for a stand in ring, as I do love the details of the basket of my solitaire.

you could talk to your jeweler and see if he can deign the setting to sit up higher. Then you could possibly fit a thin, flat band under it…most of the time it’s not too much of a possibility. I don’t wear my ering to sleep, shower, cook, or clean. It’s more the damage I’m afraid of doing to the prongs than I’m worried about damaging the diamond.
I don’t have my wedding band yet, but the halo is making it challenging to find one I love right now. Just something to keep in mind. What about keeping your solitaire and then getting a more special, elaborate wedding band/stack?

I love round stones in cushion halos. The first setting in rose gold would be a home run for me.
I don’t think you should worry about rose gold being trendy. It’s been around forever with white and yellow gold. Halos are trendy right now too, but that is because they are awesome. If you really love something, that won’t change regardless of whether or not it’s on trend at the moment. Halos and rose gold are here to stay I think.

Second! Many possibilities for a fun wedding band.

I voted for the cushion halo. I love the look of a round diamond set in a cushion halo.
ETA: I forgot to add that I voted for the white gold option. I also love rose gold and have a number of pieces of rose-gold jewelry. However, for something that you’re going to want to wear every day with every outfit for the rest of your life, I think the white gold will provide you with much greater flexibility and compatibility.

Thanks for the reply and the pictures of your ring! its beautiful!
What wedding ring do you have/will you have and do you intend to wear them together?
I have been thinking, if i do get a cushion halo, I may get an eternity band the same thickness as the engagement band. 😀

its so sweet that you said he did a good job at choosing the ring! I guess it is tough when he knows I want to change the setting.. and he is ok with it after I explained to him, but i know he will be probably happier if I loved the setting he got me 😀 I need to let him know how much I appreciated his efforts (: A halo around a purple sapphire is very unique. i would love to see it!
