I’m having trouble deciding whether to pull the trigger and purchase this boudoir package. I’ve been looking for one for a little bit to get for my groom before the wedding. Help me decide, is this the right package/good deal?
$125 for 1.5 hours photography. DVD of images, prints, albums are unknown extras but I’m guessing that’s where they’ll make the money. Hair/makeup is again an unknown extra that I’d like to have done there or elsewhere. I’m getting married in 3 months (and the bachelor party is early May), so I need to pick one soonish…I probably have time for one more deal to pop up in the next month in Boston.
I need to decide in the next ~20 minutes before I go to bed.

Don’t do it unless you know how much the extras cost. A DVD of the pics could be hundreds, if not a thousand dollars, depending on how the “deal” is structured. Getting your hair and makeup done professionally is also really expensive. Make sure that it’s a gift worth that much before you leap! Groupon-type deals like this are rarely profitable for photographers, so they tend to be a red flag to me. You’re probably going to be gouged on the back end of this deal so that they can make money.

Just looked at the pricing on their website. To get a disc with all the images, it’s about $1000. You’re saving 50% off the sitting fee, so it’d probably be like $800 total if you want the disc.

@crayfish: All I can guess at is an album might be about $350 based at their package pricing. I don’t need that large of an album (or necessarily the DVD of the images), but it definitely is a concern for me that I don’t entirely know the full “extra” pricing, so I’m curious how others who did deal boudoirs felt about theirs. No photographer seems to have that information listed…

I saw this and didn’t think it was worth it with digital copies of even just a few pictures.

@pinkshoes: Are you looking for one as well? Let me know if you spot a good one!
Thanks bees, I think I’ll pass. I like the pictures but I’m not convinced I won’t pay more than I’m prepared to pay in the end – maybe better to get a proper package that has exactly what I want.

I don’t think you missed out on anything special here. Basically they are just discounting the sitting fee. They do have a package on their website for 99 dollars (30 min sitting fee) or one for 595 that includes some retouched images and an album.
In addition, I don’t think the work is that great. I am not a big fan of studio boudoir, I think the bedroom environment is more appropriate.
The other red flag I see is the amount of images they take. 100 proofs for a 30 min session and 250 for a 1.5 hour session. That is maddness, and I am sure other photographers here will agree, especially in a studio setting.
