I stumbled across Jasmine’s Bridal Shop (a dress maker in china) and seriously looked into how legit they are, and they seem to be the real thing. I have read many rave reviews from other brides here on WB and the dresses they have look great (in picture). One bride made an interesting point, many designer gowns have “made in China” on their tags. Really?! Well, I did buy a dress early in my engagement (with future SIL) and regretted the purchase almost imediately. Since all sales are final I have a dress I don’t want (although absolutely pretty) hanging in my closet. So I quickly find the tag and sure enough “Made in China” and it’s a WToo (American designer). OK, so just because it’s from China doesn’t mean it’s bad quality.
So I tell my finace I found this possible dress maker in China that has great reviews. Well we just moved to LA, CA and he is certain I can find a dress maker here in LA (Hello, one of the major fashion cities). I do an online search and am coming up short. I found a few dress makers, but the pictures they provide online are simple dresses, nothing elaborate. One looked like it was “home-made”, as if I went to Joanns bought a pattern and fabric and sewed it myself. I’m sure there must be some talented dress makers here in LA that can design and fabricate an intricate design.
I do like the VW Gemma dress that Jasmine’s has done. I’m also considering (I just sent them an email) to see if they could make the bottom ruffles more like the Alfred Angelo 870. Here are a couple quick mash-up pictures:
I’m also wondering if they can make the dress in blush. I tried on MS Divina and loved the color (before I tried it I thought I wouldn’t do pink but they only had the sample in blush).
The Divina would almost be the perfect dress but the ruffles seems sparse in some areas. Like they trumpet ruffle was just attached and the area around it is empty and this is more noticable in the back.
So a few questions for the bee hive:
1. Does anyone know a dress maker in LA that can design an intricate dress with the flange ruffles on the skirt.
2. Should I go through with Jasmine’s in China?
If anyone has had adress done by someone in LA or by Jasmine’s can you please post pics! I would love to see what other brides have has custom made for them.
