My diamond is just shy of 3/4 carat. I have six prongs and I don’t think it takes away from the diamond. The crown sits up pretty high on my ring.

My band, which is similar to your 2nd photo, only platnum and yellow gold.

@aangel1004:  The best thing you can do is go to a jewelry store and try some on.  This will help you decide which you prefer.  It’s hard to imagine without trying some on to see how it looks on you.

If this helps, here are the settings with almost identical sized stones (.38 and .37, closest I could find to yours without it being a video):

Personally, I love 6-prong settings and how they flare out around the stone without looking as boxy as a 4-prong setting, and I don’t think that they dwarf the stone.

@aangel1004:  I still think  4 is as safe as 6. 🙂 you can always switch off the setting later…I will go with 4 as it is a smaller diamond and I think 6 prong would hide your diamond. if your diamond’s clairty, cut etc is good, your diamond won’t look like a .46, it’ll look bigger

@aangel1004:  Yup, the “recently purchased” section for each setting is my favorite thing about that site! I totaly get that there are pros and cons for each, just throwing in my take. I uploaded the pics so you could get a feel for your own reaction when they’re back to back.

Personally, I prefer the look and security of a 6 prong.  I don’t think .46 is too small for a six prong setting.  My diamond is around a quarter of a carat and it has a 6 prong setting.

I like 6 prong on stones larger than 1 ct, but I honestly think a stone your size would be overwhelmed by that much metal.

    I vote 4 prongs.
