I had bought my dress at David’s Bridal in Queens, NY (it’s a great dress! 🙂
I was of course going to take it there for the alterations. But then I read a bride’s review about her experience with David’s Bridal doing her alterations, that they’d done a terrible job, and she felt they virtually ruined the dress.
Now, I realize of course that this could have been just that one location, just those particular people who did the altering. But I just want to make sure that this is not a consistent theme with the David’s Bridal chain, before I hand over my beloved dress:). Anyone know??

I didn’t purchase a dress from David’s Bridal, but I do know that the chain does not have a good reputation for customer service and alterations. I’ve heard that they are overpriced and hard to deal with. I would suggest bringing your dress to an independent seamstress.

I’d take it elsewhere, too. Before you decide, I’d take it to some seamstresses to see what they think tho and what it may cost. You prob have an idea of where it’ll need to be tucked and shortened

I was wondering the same thing – I received my dress from DB’s a month ago and am looking to get it altered next month. I can’t decide where to take it! I was going to take it to DB’s at least to get a price quote and also to an independent seamstress for the same thing…then decide from there.

Ok, great. Glad I asked. And there are a number of seamstresses out here and MUCH, MUCH closer to me than DB’s.

I also had trepidations. So, I asked to speak with the alterations manager and asked for her information regarding where she used to work, etc. I found one of the three David’s I went to had an alterations woman I really liked so I am taking it there. I wasn’t even buying anything since I had my dress from another store, but she was willing to come out and consult with me about the dress and spent about 30 minutes answering my questions. She is great. Plus, if anything happens to the dress under their care that is not able to be fixed, they have to replace it for me. For some reason, I liked knowing that. However, I can also see the benefits of finding someone else. I tihnk it depends on the store in your area and on your ability to find a close, reasonable alterations person. Good luck!!!! 🙂
