If it isn’t appraised I guess I’d decide based on purchase price.  Could I replace it without stressing my finances?  If no, then I’d insure it.  We insured my ering since the replacement cost would certainly be missed.  My wedding band was only $900 and wouldn’t cause any financial hardship to replace, so we don’t insure it.

We didn’t bother with the wedding band.  It’s value is pretty low compared to the e-ring and covered in the standard home insurnace policy for jewlery.

I insured my whole set. It’s between 50 and 75 dollars for both for a whole year. Nothing to break the bank over.  But for us it would hurt my husbands wallet alot  to have to replace it full cost plus whatever the cost raise is for the same thing in the future. So for us insuring it was better. But if you guys could easily and quickly replace it then you could probably skip it 🙂

If you can’t afford to replace it easily, than I’d insure it

DappledDuchess :  Mind if I ask who you went with for such a low rate?

jayrock :  sure thing. Jewellers mutual. Keep in mind though the prices may be higher depending on where you live, if you have security and stuff and also the amount your set appraised for 🙂 it cost less for me to insure it where my husband is stationed and we live now versus Florida where I was living before. I was shocked when I got a teeny refund and had insured 2 rings instead of one like in Florida.

We only insured my e-ring. Wedding band was less than $1k so not worth it to bother insuring, could just buy a different cheaper band if I ever lost it.

I think I would base it on if you could easily afford to replace it. Mine was almost $6K and it’s insured. I could not run out and replace it.
